NFL experimenting with new PAT rules

Not a fan of it but it does put more value on the PAT, which would make it more exciting.

Imagine a two minute drive, were ahead by 7. Someone drives down the field and scores a TD with zero time left. Overtime, right? NO!! They could still miss the PAT. Some value put on that PAT.

I just don't like it because we don't have that kicker. If we had a top kicker, I'd be less worried about it.

 

Yeah, lived this reality for three years with Michael Palardy. It's not as fun as you think.

 

I am not really all that excited about the PAT movement, but getting more 2pt tries would make it more exciting. I don't see that happening though. Most kickers are gonna hit it from those distances.

The one thing I see that I have NOT liked is the flags for contact after 5yds. I get wanting to add excitement and that the NFL is going to be pass oriented. However, half the fun on pass plays is watching great WRs battle great CBs for the ball IMO. If you do not allow the CB to touch the WR you are pretty much making it a gimme to the offense. I guess that is what the NFL is looking for, more high score games. I think that is good in a way, but it kind of negates the performance of many CBs. If you are a physical CB you obviously have a disadvantage in this type of play. Especially against faster, taller WRs.

 

Its only fun if you're the one who wins. If not, it sucks.

 

I just don't understand the rationale. No more PATs from inside the five because guys have gotten too good at them, but teams can still attempt a 20-yard FG that would be worth three points. Why not just outlaw all kicks within 32 yards if they're such a gimmee?

 

Quarterbacks are completing too high a percentage of their passes. Time to let the defense be more physical. Yeah, like that's going to happen....

 

I really have hated with a passion, the way the league is going... all this emphasis on WR protection and QB protection disgusts me... It takes away the beauty of the game I can understand helmet to helmet, but all these other rules with the D holding, defenseless receiver, blow to the QB head, etc... it is completely ruining the game, the PAT thing is ok I guess, but eventually the defensive players will strike against the league, they will get tired of paying these fines and the NFLPA will have to choose sides

 

I totally agree! Not only that, but the Offense gets away with "picking" defenders at will on their routes as well. The Pats and Broncos are masters at it. The league needs to allow the Defense to have some teeth in my opinion. The helmet spearing has to STOP, but several questionable hits were fined when it was obvious to me that the defender was trying to play within league rules. It is disgusting!

 

The worst thing about this defenseless receiver rule is that I feel like our team suffers the most over any other team in the league for it.

The league already has told the refs keep an eye out on Pollard and Griffin for being "repeat offenders" So they get called for crap when its clean. Annoying AF.
