Now that we have seen a few games, I'm not a huge fan of the defensive rule changes. Refs are calling just about everything against the defense, as if it isn't hard enough to get stops as it is. I lost count of how many defensive holding and "hands to the face" calls there were in the 1st half of the Jags/Bears.

Any thoughts on this stuff? It's like the defenses will become way too under-powered. I think we'll be seeing a lot of refball this year.

Conspiracy--Is it because horse face Manning was reduced to throwing screens against a dominant D? God I loved that! My thoughts are to let men be men! The league wants scoring kind of like baseball likes the Dinger. Shrink the strike zone and watch the ball fly. I hated watching the end chess game last year and seeing teams throw fly balls down the field hoping for a yellow ticket home. If too many flags come out, I believe the backlash will be too strong, and that it will be evened out. The offense definitely has the advantage. Seriously I hope you are wrong about this, and that the stripes are just letting the players know they are "watching" or something.

Manning is getting older and got his @ss owned in the SB.

    Goodell hates that.

And he'll do anything to get PM that ring. As if the rules haven't been bent enough for him as it is.

All true, that is why having a TRUE FRANCHISE QB in the game today is the only way to go. Manning, Brady, Brees all get the "benefit of the doubt" from the refs. If you remember when the pats "roughed" up Marvin Harrison and the rest of manning's receivers years ago the league made changes the following season and hand checking and the five yard rule. All these are reason that there is no longer such a thing as a "shut down" corner anymore. Moral of the story, find a GREAT QB, don't spend on running backs, and "shut down" corners.....spend on guys to sack the QB instead. Only way to stop them.

Reason for all the extra flags is there's 1 extra ref in preseason. Come regular season it goes back down to 7 officials.
A lot less gets noticed with one less person watching

This trend will continue, same thing is happening in the NHL, pussification. As long as the refs are consistent. It is what it is sadly.

Eventually it's gonna take a half of a day to watch a game with all these flags.

Pretty sure every team wants one of those.

We should just go pick one off the TRUE FRANCHISE QB tree than.....
