you dont draft on production, you draft on potential

Hunter is a much needed weapon for Locker. I'm excited to see if he can live up to expectations this year.

Not 100% tho. Sometimes you take the guy that had the production - but those types are normally round 3- later. McCrutches was a production guy. Not a huge talent, injury concerns but he had the production.

I'm really hoping we didn't draft the production type running back tho... Cuz what sankey did at Washington doesn't impress me for the pros. God I hope he is/was a diamond in the rough and he really surprises me. But that seems very unlike most rbs

GM's dont typically care about what a guy did for a college team in the past, they're main interest is how a guy helps their team now and down the road. A lot of the time the schemes are different, so production wont translate, but speed and size are still speed and size at any level.

There's a balance. Regardless of your raiders ideology - normal GMs don't just look at size speed. There's also talent/production bud.

Yes, some players in the later rounds are only size/speed but the early round cats normally have a track record of some sort of production prior to the pros.

Every year there's are also those RARE athletes that were late bloomers on the field and thus you get JPPs and Ansahs. Those types get taken early on 1 year production type talents because of how explosive they showed they could be.

Chris Henry, Tyrone Calico, Paul Williams, Jamie Harper, Justin Hunter, approve of your post. Obviously potential is a factor, so is production. I'm just saying that you can't sacrifice one for the other there has to be two sides to the coin.

not really. I mean yea you must show you can play, but thats the clincher, just give one GM somewhere the notion you can carry out his plan and you're getting drafted.
Im telling you, stats dont matter so much during the drafting process. Every GM thinks he can mold anyone into a star.

That may be true of GM's the problem is drafting primarily on potential tends to bite you in the ass more often than not. At least it seems to bite us in the ass more often than not.

Youre going with "the proof is in the pudding" mentality, but Ive seen enough GM's go with the "I want my own pudding" line of thinking, so IMO potential is the trend of NFL GM's

not saying its right, just saying thats how it tends to be
