Thats because most people that play soccer, ride the bench for the Football team ... or they are the kicker

    Okay

    I played both.

    You are wrong.

Football would in fact be safer without the suit of plastic armor.

Look at rugby. Learn proper tackling techniques and injuries are reduced.

We saw more sprained ankles in soccer than anything with knee injuries after that.

Very few significant injuries resulting in broken bones or serious ligament tears.

I don't think anyone is trying to make the point that an NFL player can go and be a proffessional soccer player tomorrow. Or that just because you are a NFL player, that you could've been a prof soccer player had you started young enough. No one is even making the point that all good athletes are going to be great soccer players.

The point that is being made is regarding talent pool. The fact that the better athleetes in most cases are going off to play football in HS instead of soccer really takes away from the talent pool in the US from a soccer perspective. That does not mean that every person that accels at FB would automatically excel at soccer, BUT there are a lot of people that would be good at both. Its those people that we are talking about (kinda like how Jake Locker could play proffesional BB or FB)

The fact is that most proffesional athletes are good at more than just 1 sport. The sport they are proffesionals in is just the one they picked to persue.

Also your point about there being 'no connection' between athleticism and a proffesional athlete is absolutely absurd. Of course your top athletes are going to be the pros. All of your professional athletes are in the 1% (actually probably less than 1%) as far as athleticism goes. Sure, technique is what will separate the Pros from the rest, but to suggest that technique will over come athleticism is just wrong, unless there is a small seperation between the athletes (which is the case in most pro sports). But you act like that if I had perfect technique I could be a pro (which is wrong because I lack the athleticism) ... so there IS a connection.

No I don't. But if you had the perfect technique at young age 10/10 talent scouts would select you over the gifted physical athlete. It's way easier to build athleticism on a soccer player, than to make an athlete a soccer player.

I never denied there was a connection. But you're all more or less assuming that any random NFL player would be just as good at soccer, had he been given the same amount of soccer practice as football practice. And that assumption is as wrong as it can be.

I tore my ACL (partial) playing soccer.

Slide tackled a guy who was much bigger than me.

Took the ball and his legs out from under him leaving my right leg pinned back under me when he came down on too of me. Felt it pop.

    Instant pain.

Was stupid and didn't immediately go to the doctor. Got back up and tried to keep playing as the pain went away pretty quick.

Finally went to the doctor. Damage was done. Tear was partial and knee healed improperly.

2nd injury was from slide tackling someone on artificial turf/sand paper without guards on.

Leg looked nasty for weeks lol.

A guy breaking his leg twice. It was a legal tackle, just bad luck.

    Ohhhh... I get it now.

You're pretending to be the only guy that knew anything of soccer before the hype of the world cup came about, right?

    In that case... carry on.

Being athletic won't make you a better soccer player. Right. Just purely coincidental that all the best soccer players are wildly athletic... coincidence.

(Minus Wayne Rooney- who looks like a farkin' dump truck trying to pirouette on the pitch.)
