I don't mean "should've" as in going into the match we were the favorites ... I mean "should've" as in the game was in our hands, but lost at the last min.

Hence my Jeff Fisher comparision ... also called grasping defeat from the jaws of victory (or grasping a tie from the jaws of victory and a loss from the jaws of a tie lol)

Either way, not something to be proud of ... Unless you are one of those fans that hung their hats on the fact that the Titans 'just barely' lost to the Seahawks last year. IMO that was a game we "should've won" because we controled it for the most part, but we just found a way to lose.

We play the winner of group H which is about to be played, which is most likely going to be Belgium but the door is open for Algeria if South Korea can beat Belgium

    Group H

    Belgium 6pts
    Algeria 3pts
    Russia 1pt
    South Korea 1pt

In NFL terms ... If the Titans played the Patriots (or whatever really good team) and are winning the entire game, then lose on a hail mary on the last sec, everyone here would say "We should've won that game". I'm just saying, If your team is winning (or tied) for an entire game and ends up losing, that is not something to hang your hat on. That is just called "finding ways to lose" in NFL terms.

What the US did today was no different than losing in week 17 and still making the playoffs.

Its like needing a win in week 17 to make the playoffs, but we lose. But some of the other games go our way, and we get in anyway.

Now in that scenario, most fans would be happy that the Titans made it in (and I'd say most here are happy that US made it out of the 1st rd) .... but would you feel confident in your team if they just lost a 'must win' going into a playoff? I bet most fans here wouldn't feel to good about that.

Before this world cup I cared little to none about soccer, but I have to say its been fun watching these guys.

I can see how this US squad would drive the die hards nuts, but hey, they're still alive right...

Aside from all the NFL comparisons and opinions in this thread, there's only one fact that matters:

The US advanced out of their group.

That's the goal of every team entering the Cup. It doesn't matter how it's done or how you get there, as long as you make it. Given that the US team was written off from the minute we were drawn into the "Group of death", I'd say we did a fine job. Not only is it a huge moment in US Soccer history, but it's a huge moment for the growth of the sport in this country.

It's like NCAA basketball... as long as you make it to the tourney.

Well, we're in. 16 teams. It's pretty awesome company to be in.

Especially when you think: England - Done. Spain - Done. Italy - Done.

They didn't do enough to advance. We did. The end.
