I think too much stock is going into the "they have the US's number" talk.

Their defense is weak. Get behind them, and there should be plenty chances to score.

 

There's supposedly going to be 20,000 USA fans there. The stadium only holds 39k.

At least called the Iran/Nigeria tie.

Thought they'd both get at least 1 goal though.

what do the big American sports have in common?

they have breaks in the action. For strategic planning.
Football runs set plays
Baseball has the pitcher/batter confrontation
Basketball has tons of breaks although there are stretches of constant action
Hockey is the same but with maybe less breaks

Soccer is just an odd sport to American sporting senses.


There are other things sure but the lack of set plays, other than corner kicks, penalty kicks (and a bunch of them are just taps to get the ball in play) and shoot outs the soccer ball just seems to go back and forth, back and forth. Then there is the whole 'mystery' clock that only the referee knows about. That right there is just dang hard to accept IMO
