You would have to admit that Mettenberger is quite a unique late round situation though. He was ranked among the top 40 players available in the draft my most.

You probably typed all that before you saw my next post that shows Rusty Smith produced twice as much as Mettenberger.

Among pundits who are outsiders, maybe.

But obviously among GMs, not even close. And those are the ones that matter, really.

In any given draft, sixth-round picks are long shots. At the QB position, it's even more remote.

I'd be shocked if Mett makes the final 53-man roster as I don't see Whiz keeping three QBs but hope he plays well enough to make the practice squad by beating out Wilson.

Yes and without the ACL he was probably a late 2nd round pick.

I don't get the point in arguing over Mettenberger at this point. We drafted him. He's here. We didn't give up much at all for him. Even if he develops into a halfway decent backup he was worth the pick(/s).

No one here can say for sure whether he'll be great, average, or terrible. So let's just wait and see what he's got. Because we all know he WILL get at least a few starts at some point this season. Am I expecting the next Tom Brady? No. But I'm pulling for him. We sure as hell haven't had much luck with drafting potential franchise QBs early in the draft.

    interesting. Did not know that.

But I'm sure the factors in that difference are Mettenbergers transfers from school to school, and Rusty's mostly scrub level of competition comparatively. But you are right.

You think Mett will win out the #2 job over Charlie?

That would be very smart, if they intend on not playing him this season. Free way to keep him on the roster without taking up a roster spot. didn't they change the rules last season to where IR doesn't necessarily sit them for the season?
