Some of them are done, but some would be fine for a year or two.

Trouble is which ones :S have to really look them over. Also, have to make sure they are not just trying to gravy train another sweet pay check at the end of their career. These guys know they will never have this kind of earning power again. Even at the vet minimum. Many NFL players hang on just for the money and are not into it any more.

I'm just throwing out alternatives to drafting a CB early this year... We could sign one of those guys to a one year deal and use them sparingly while getting a better feel for BWW and Sensabaugh.

I thought you said RB was our biggest need on another thread?

Your post totally ignores what we did in the off season. We signed a guy who had 10 sacks last year(Phillips) and restructured Wimbley's contract to keep him around. Along with Morgan and Ayers seems like we are set on the edge. Brown could also rush off the edge. I don't think we are drafting another edge rusher at 11.

In the meantime we lost a good starting CB and have not signed anybody of note at that position.

We did sign Phillips and restructure Wimbley but here's the issue. Phillips had a great season last year but he's getting on in years. He's not a long term solution at pass rusher. In reality we don't definitively know if the guy will give us a 10 sack season or if this will be the first year of his decline.

We resigned Wimbley but it's been a while since we saw any production out of him. Granted this is partly due to him being in the wrong system but we can't just assume that because we're moving to the 3-4 that he will have a resurgence. Ayers is in a similar situation to Wimbley but he's been a bit more productive. With Morgan we don't even know where he will fit in to the new scheme and even if he does we all know Morgan can create pressure but rarely finishes with a sack.

That's too much uncertainty for me to pass on the #1 or #2 pass rusher in the draft if we got a shot at him. Of course we don't know for sure but Barr could be a player that transforms your defense for years to come. The guys we have will at best give us a couple years of decent-good production and then retire or go elsewhere. I don't see the harm in adding a potentially lethal pass rusher to a possibly already talented group. The Texans having JJ Watt won't stop them from drafting Clowney if they decide to so Phillips and Ayers will definitely not stop me from taking Barr.

Clowney looks like a bust. I hope the cows take him.

The nice thing is that we have options. We don't have to feel the need to reach for anybody. As was pointed out earlier in the thread. If we don't come out of the draft with a CB early then we can always add a vet to give us depth if BWW doesn't step up. We have several players who can play the 3-4 OLBer spot so we aren't forced to take one.

Stick to the board and take BPA...while trying to trade down if possible to get more picks that should be our strategy.

If a run of QBs happens before us in the 1st and then another run at the end of the 1st early 2nd well so be it. Take advantage of other players dropping and go with Locker, Wilson, and Whitehurst. Don't reach for a QB, but if the value is their then don't pass it up either because it is the most important position.

But imagine if Clowney plays up to his hype alongside J.J. Twatt.

I'm not even playing Locker in my Madden games against the Texans next year. He won't even be on the plane to Houston.
