I get what you're saying but it's the NFL HoF not the Titan HoF. If you start putting guys in just because they "risked their health", "gave everything they had", "meant a lot to X franchise" then the Hall would get really full, really fast.

The sad truth is the Titans haven't had a player who you can say without question deserves to be in the Hall. Eddie and Steve are close, but not quite. And I doubt CJ makes it but we'll see. It sucks our franchise has been so devoid of elite talent over the years. But it is what it is. Just because someone is the best Titan does not necessarily mean they were an all-time great.

WRONG... The Titans are NOT a new franchise and McNair didnt put them on the map. The Oilers were a legit franchise before the move and name change.

The Oilers/Titans have had elite talent. You dont know your history if you think not. Now.. only consisering the years as the Titans is another story.

    But NOT a new franchise.

I loved Steve, but he isnt a HOFer.

Steve is about as good as a player can get without reaching that elite hall of famer status. It sucks but he just didn't do enough which is strange to say cause the guy gave us all he had.

McNair is definitely not the best QB this franchise has seen. Warren Moon clearly has that title. I know all of you Tennessee people like to forget the franchise history and think this franchise was a "new" franchise in Tennessee, but that is just not so. The Oilers are part of the franchise and they have a lot of elite talent and a long history in the NFL. McNair is no where near Warren Moon, and he is definitely not a Hall of Famer.

As far as I am concerned, those memories and players can stay in Houston. That is the city they were playing for and that holds more weight than a 'company'. So yea, Houston can keep the Oilers for all I care.

I know a lot of people feel the same way scarecrow, but the franchise is the franchise--as much as you might want to separate it from Houston, history doesn't see it that way. McNair was drafted by the Houston Oilers, all the first Titans were former Oilers, the owner was the Oiler owner, the coach was an Oiler coach . . . and probably the most loyal fans of the Titans are former Oiler fans (since 1987 for me). Houston can't keep the Oilers because the Oilers are now in Tennessee and they are called the Titans. Houston can keep the Texans, but like it or not you have the Oilers . . .

This is exactly why I said "new" franchise. Although we did come from the oilers, we are the titans now. I'll say it again steve and eddie put us on the map and are sadly two of the few reasons "most" titans fans came to love this team. Nothing at all will ever put the idea out of my head that steve doesn't at least deserve to be mentioned.

Many franchises move to a new city. The Cardinals identity is now in Arizona. The Rams identity in St. Louis. The Colts in Indy. The Ravens in Baltimore, etc.

Point is, we the Titans haven't done much to solidify a real identity since being in Nashville. Sure- a SB loss was great, an AFC loss OK but we haven't had that dominating run. If that ever happens, nobody will ever consider the Titans as the Oilers evolved. They will have to forge their own identity THROUGH WINNING.

The Oilers legacy was losing a lot of games they should have won. That along with Earl Campbell, Warren Moon and maybe Bruce Matthews and a few other "good" players. The Titans just haven't had that run of team success that allows a franchise to weld its identity to its geographic location. If it ever happens, I assure you NFL fans won't even remember the Titans were formally the Oilers.

Personally, I like that the franchise appears to have FINALLY cut the lingering ties with the Oilers. With Bud Adams death and an apparent "clean break" from former Oiler players/network, I believe this franchise has the real potential to weld an identity with its present geographic location.
