Jurrell Casey not cleared for Pro Bowl

Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey was in position to go to Pro Bowl as alternate, but he wasn’t cleared medically to play in the game.

Casey, a second alternate during the voting process, was next in line after San Francisco’s Justin Smith pulled out of the contest on Monday. Last week, Baltimore’s Haloti Ngata was replaced by Cowboys defensive lineman Jason Hatcher.

But Casey, who missed the season-finale with a knee injury, wasn’t cleared by the team’s medical staff, which opened the door for Buffalo’s Marcell Dareus to get the spot.

Casey led the Titans with 10.5 sacks in 2013. He told 104.5’s “Midday180” on Dec. 31 he would pass if he got chance as alternate because he felt snubbed. Because of the injury, however, the decision was made for him.

Cornerback Alterraun Verner is the only Titan set to play in the Pro Bowl this season.
