    Current position: Ravens offensive coordinator

    Age: 58

Prior to current position: Spent more than two decades in the college ranks, culminating with eight years (1993-2000) as head coach at Wake Forest. Spent 2001 as quarterbacks coach for the Buccaneers then held the same role with the Colts from 2002-08. He was Colts head coach from 2009-11 before joining the Ravens in 2012.

Pros: Has extensive background with quarterbacks and the offense overall. That could prove very helpful for the Titans, who are still trying to develop Jake Locker and who may be looking at adding another QB via the draft. … Earned a lot of praise during Baltimore’s Super Bowl season last year, when he was promoted late in the season from quarterbacks coach. The offense clicked throughout the postseason and the Ravens wound up winning the Super Bowl. … As a head coach led the Colts to a 26-22 record over three years, including a Super Bowl appearance following the 2009 season. … Peyton Manning put up spectacular numbers during the seven years Caldwell was his quarterbacks coach. … Has an understated, professional manner.

Cons: The big knock is that the Colts went 2-14 under him in 2011 when Manning was sidelined by injury, leaving Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky and Kerry Collins to run the offense. … The Ravens were not a good offensive team in 2013, finishing 29th overall – 30th in the run and 18th in the pass. … Caldwell will be 59 when next season starts. … His manner might not appeal to Titans fans looking for a more visibly emotional coach after Mike Munchak.

Comment: “Jim Caldwell certainly wouldn’t be a sexy coaching hire. He is quiet and understated and won’t wow the players or the media with fiery, motivational speeches or revealing rhetoric. But he is a solid football man who players and coaches like being around, and he has a stabilizing influence on players who trust him and like playing for him. … In the right situation, and with the right players, Caldwell absolutely could be a successful head coach again.” Jeff Zrebiec, Ravens beat writer, The Baltimore Sun

    Current position: Bengals defensive coordinator

    Age: 57

Prior to current position: Spent his first 15 seasons coaching in the college ranks, starting at Missouri and eventually becoming defensive coordinator at Washington State from 1989-93. He entered the NFL as Cowboys defensive backs coach in 1994 and was coordinator from 2000-06. He spent one year as Falcons defensive coordinator before joining Bengals in 2007.

Pros: If the vocal, intense ways of senior assistant/defense Gregg Williams served as a boost for the Titans in 2012, then Zimmer would be a good fit. … His defense finished in the top 10 in three straight seasons and four of his six as coordinator. … This year it was third in overall (fifth vs. run, fifth vs. pass) despite losing Pro Bowl DT Geno Atkins to a torn ACL halfway through the season. … Bengals finished seventh in sacks with 46, seven more than the Titans posted. … Zimmer played LB in college and has experience coaching them. He helped Vontaze Burfict – who was bypassed in the 2012 draft – turn into a Pro Bowl player who led the league in tackles. … Reportedly has a no-nonsense manner that players respond to.

Cons: Strengths are obviously on the defensive side of the ball, which, it could be argued, needs less immediate help than the Titans’ offense. … He’ll be 58 by the time next season starts, but he’s still received plenty of interview requests over the past couple of years. … Reportedly rubs some people the wrong way with his blunt manner, which may not serve him particularly well as a head coach.

Comment: “One of the best defensive coordinators in the game who has the adoration of his players. Can be blunt at times but if you are looking for a disciplinarian, he is your guy,” — Joe Reedy, Bengals beat writer, Cincinnati Enquirer

Mike Zimmer is a great coach. His players love him, but at the same time he's also a disciplinarian. His former players usually end up following him to his new team. He inherited a bottom ranked defense in Cincinnati and turned it into top 3.

I don't understand him or Bevell. Bevell has been very inconsistent as an OC over the years.

Don't worry about it. He's not a serious candidate with his record without Manning. Didn't he go winless that one year?

Rooney rule candidate only. Horrible head coach. If you get exposed with Peyton manning as your QB, you truly suck.
