The Titans have requested permission to talk to Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell about their head coaching vacancy.

Caldwell just finished his first full season as Baltimore’s offensive coordinator, when the Ravens finished 29th in the league on offense.

Under Caldwell’s guidance as quarterbacks coach last season, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco posted 3,817 passing yards to go with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions en route to earning Super Bowl MVP honors.

Caldwell served as Peyton Manning’s quarterbacks coach with the Colts from 2002-08. He replaced Tony Dungy as head coach of the Colts in 2009, and served in that capacity for three seasons.

The Colts posted a 14-2 record in Caldwell’s first season, but lost in the Super Bowl to the Saints. They went 10-6 the next season and lost in the playoffs. With Manning sidelined in 2011, the Colts went 2-14, and Caldwell was fired.

Caldwell has ties to Titans General Manager Ruston Webster. He was a quarterbacks coach with the Buccaneers in 2001 when Webster was director of college scouting with Tampa Bay.

Would be quite surprised if Titans search concluded before Seattle DC Dan Quinn is eligible to interview. Their GM is very high on him

By delaying firing of Munchak, the Titans missed the initial window w/Quinn on the bye. Now they have to wait for Seattle to lose

Every morning, Jim Tomsula wakes up feeling blessed.

    Why wouldn’t he?

He is lying next to the love of his life, he has three children that mean the world to him and over the last 20 years, he has gone from an unpaid, volunteer coach at Catawba College who lived in his car, to the defensive line coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
