OAKLAND, Calif. Titans safety Michael Griffin can expect a fine from the NFL this week.

He was flagged for unnecessary roughness when he hit Mychal Rivera, dislodging the Raiders tight end’s helmet. Officials ruled Rivera was a defenseless receiver.

Griffin said he’s not sure what he could’ve done differently.

“He catches the ball, first down, they’re right there in scoring position,” he said. “You knock the ball loose, they’re still right there in scoring position.

“More than likely I’m going to see a fine from the commissioner, and I’ve just got to go from there and continue to play football.”

He went low... so did the WR.

    Completely unavoidable by Griff imo.

It could have been a lot worse! Griffin backed off he tried his best to only hit with his shoulders! He should not be fined!

League will fine him because theyre a joke. Griffin wasnt in a position to do anything different than he did.

    Proud of him for that.

That's how a safety is supposed to hit.

While I understand the fine... it should not be as severe as if Griffin TRIED to hit him in the head.

Griff clearly did not. He tried to go low - as defenders are told - and you could even see him try to pull up a bit - but he was going at full speed at that point.

I might be wrong - my feed was fuzzy - but was Griff actually responsible for knocking the ball out? As in, had Griff not hit the guy, would the ball have remained and been called a catch? If so, Griff did what he had to. Unfortunately, the stupid Receiver put himself in a bad position.
