When the St. Louis Rams signed tight end Jared Cook to a five-year, $35 million deal, they envisioned him adding an important explosive element to the offense.

That looked like it would be the case during the Rams’ first game this season, when Cook caught seven passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns, but the former Titan hasn’t been very dynamic since then.

Over the Rams’ last seven games, Cook has caught a fair number of passes (22), but he hasn’t totaled more than 45 receiving yards in any of those contests, nor has he scored any more touchdowns. His 12.9-yard average per catch this season is a yard better than it was with the Titans last year, but it’s still below his career-best average of 15.5 yards per catch, set in 2012 in Tennessee.

Cook has struggled in the blocking department, per Pro Football Focus, which ranks him 28th out of 31 in that field among tight ends who’ve played at least half their team’s snaps this year.

Titans safety Michael Griffin had this to say about the prospect of facing Cook, his 6-5, 254-pound former teammate.

“It’s the same challenge we have week in and week out,” Griffin said. “Last week (against San Francisco, we had a very tough opponent in (tight end) Vernon Davis.

“Cook is a long strider, taller (than Davis) and it seems like he can make the harder catches a lot better than he can make the easier catches. I’m pretty sure he’s going to come into this game fired up and ready to go. I’m just looking forward to the challenge.”

Sounds like Griffin is a go. I've been pleasantly surprised by his play this year.

The thing that kills drives is stupid players that don't know their assignment. Cook is that type. Worthless.

Another TE that I always see screwing up his teams chances, is the lions TE. Dude is mistake prone. Drops easy balls. Let's verner strip em. Mistakes mistakes mistakes.

btw cook quiets himself as he drops the ball in the chest last night so I have no doubt we can hold him back too!

Hit him early and hard, we all know it isn't hard to take him out of his game. I had high hopes for him as a Titan, but you can't make a career solely off potential.

But...I thought the Titans just didn't know how to utilize a guy of his talent.

It is so frustrating to watch Fisher finally use Cook like we should have used him all the time while he was here. Even though he is labeled as guy who cant block, they still lined him up at the normal TE position instead of putting him out there as a WR and in the slot. Look what it did today! It forced the cards to put LB's on him which created so many mismatche's. We really should have gave him a chance here like that and put our franchise tag on him.
