I want to cut CJ so I have options next year. Not because I want to resign this exact team.

Nobody makes plays on their own, but how much do you spend on good, but not great players and think you'd have a SB contending team? Schemes don't win championships, playmakers do. Schemes put playmakers in position to make plays. I'd rather spend 10% of my cap on a playmaker that gives me the best chance to win a championship, than on 5 players who are "servieable", and will be watching the playmakers on other teams in playoffs from their couches at home. In the league, it is all about winning. Serviceable players in good schemes don't win championships.

Yes he is. And I say that with absolutely no hesitation. You can't coach what he has. We can talk about a whole lot of things that CJ lacks but one thing is indisputable, the man is consistently lethal in open space, he just is . And that skill set is rare. So he may be considered by some (not me) as a one trick pony but if he is that's one hell of a trick.

    I completely disagree with this.

RBs have rarely ever had a say in winning SBs. The QB has to elevate the team in the play offs. What big name RB has won a SB in the past 10 Years? ....

What playmaker RB has even sniffed the SB?

You're right, it was another poster who wanted to cut CJ to resign some FA's on D. My bad.

But who would you sign to replace CJ? Sproles and Bush are under contract, yet even they do not have the play making history of CJ. This is the guy with the most 60, 70, and 80 yd TD's in the history of the game, period. And he is under contract with the Titans. With the right scheme and coaching, he is probably the most dangerous non-QB weapon in the NFL today, even with AP in the league.

i don't think we're in to much cap trouble. If we decide to let some players go and not resign guys we should be ok.

It's just that we can't do much in FA because the money that would or is coming off of our books is going to be quickly replaced by Locker/Casey/Verner/Brown

AP came close twice with MN, but that is not my point. My point is if you cut CJ, take him away from the Titans, who would you say is a legitimate playmaker on O now and/or who would you bring in to assume that role? I am not arguing that all elite teams need playmaking RB's. I am arguing that elite teams have playmakers, not just a bunch of "serviceable" to good role players. Without CJ, the Titans have no proven playmakers. I just don't see how that helps them get closer to a SB. Name one SB champ over the last 10 years that didn't have any playmakers at all, no matter what the position? That is what you are setting up with the Titans if you cut CJ at this point.

I watch '09 clips and see this unbelievably smooth ability to slip past defenders. This acceleration to cut it outside at any time... Now, I see the ability to diverge tackles and get down before contact to maximize yards. The open field ability, but not the ability to get there anymore. He used to take any run to the edge. Middle clogged, he'd juke out a defender and hit the sideline. His start stop was unprecedented.

He WAS amazing IMO. If he was running the way he did in 09, pay him 10 mil.
