Yeah. I typically hate "slippery slope" type arguments. But seriously, if the best reasons we can think of to add more teams is for monetary gain and to allow "teams on the cusp to have a chance", then where do you draw the line? There will always be more money to be made and there will always be "teams on the cusp".

exactly, it is an honor to make the playoffs, it speaks volumes about how your team performed during the season and all the hard work. Adding extra wild cards allows teams under 500 like you stated above to make the playoffs. They add more teams to the playoffs this league will become a joke. People will still watch but the integrity will be lost. Also this league wants player safety, this is another way of getting a "17th game" by getting rid of a preseason and adding an extra playoff game.

the schedule is set up as 8 division battles. Within a division only 2 opponents vary while 14 are the same throughout the division.

so, IMHO, an 7-9 or whatever division WINNER has won the right too host because that is the way the NFL is set up. Now in all likleyhood that 7-9 division winner will be a 4 seed and host a 5 seed with a much better record (11+ wins likley) and will most times be 1 and done, but they play the game anyways

you know play in week would be awsome

division winners get a bye division losers say bye
second place teams host third place teams inside a division - talk about good games! - in w1
w2 division winners host remaining teams seeded by record (like now but down to 8 seeds)
    ect...

Nah. The bottom 16 teams would never make it in. Not opposed to the top half making it in.

And record alone is a tough way to judge. Some 8-8 teams are better than 10-6 teams. For example: any team that wins the afc south. They play scrubs for the majority of their schedule. But a .500 team in a good conference may be legit.. They just play the cream of the crop all season.

In my opinion, division winners should always make it. It's just tradition, and something to right for the entire season: Win your division, make the playoffs. Crazy things can happen, too. Remember 7-9 Seattle beating the defending champion Saints in the wildcard?

I don't want to see the playoffs expand at all.. it's supposed to be tough to make it. Having more teams would waterdown the playoffs. We'd have too many iffy teams in there. The Jets would have been a possible playoff team last season.

But of course the NFL will do it.. more money. Harm the integrity of the game for some more bucks. Greedy scumbags.

All of these responses and opinions are fantastic in every way. Finally, it's nice to hear intelligent fan feed back as apples to rah, rah, s$)!?t all the time. I would not be against adding a 7th team to each conference, which will make getting the #1 seed that much more rewarding and important, being the only team in each conference getting a bye.

Anything more than 7 teams per conference I agree is ridiculous and way too much. The NFL emphasizes its rules in this day in age the way they do is to enhance big play offenses that score more touchdowns for television and or network ratings. Plain and simple. With the popularity the way it is for the NFL worldwide, adding another Wild -Card team to each conference would make sense to enhance the games image and fan base that much more.

What I don't like is the NFL making statements and implicating certain rules in a hypercritical manner. Example being what happens to our team in regards to player safety and fines that don't apply the same way to other teams across the league.

To keep things making sense, I'd like to see a Division winner ONLY get a bye if they have a winning record. If they don't, they still get a playoff spot but will be seeded by record. So yes, winning your division still gets you in, but you should NOT be rewarded with a bye or a Home Game with an 8-8 record while another team is a Wild Card at 12-4 and has to play on the road.

This would add a lot of intrigue into the final couple of weeks as teams are not only fighting for a playoff spot, but fighting for playoff seed position. As it stands, the Cowboys could potentially win the NFC East with a 7-9 record and play at home verus a 10-6 team in a wildcard. In addition, they could be several games ahead and rest players for 2-3 weeks (part of ending up with that record) just because they are so far ahead of their division. That is BAD for the NFL!!! They want people playing starters all the time!

My way eliminates some of the sitting half the team stuff as well as keeping fans more interested in the final weeks. I don't like it when going into week 16 we know all but 1 playoff spot and most teams can't move up or down a seed.

    Make it better Roger...not worse!!!

We should NOT add any more playoff teams...it really lessens the importance of the regular season! What are we, hockey???

If it's about revenue, I say put all the teams in the playoffs. It would hush the talk of expanding the season, cause it would do it on it's own. 5 weeks of playoffs. Everyone gets their participation trophy.

    Another idea:
The 30 teams not in the Super Bowl will be ranked by AP sports reporters and playing in advertiser-sponsored games that weekend.

Oh! Another gem!! We don't keep score in the Super Bowl or the advertiser-sponsored games!!! This way, all fans and players go home feeling good about their seasons and feeling like winners.
