When the Titans parted ways with Pacman Jones in 2008 following three controversy-filled seasons, his career seemed headed nowhere.

Yet the cornerback/return man is set to begin his fourth season with the Bengals, who play host to the Titans on Saturday. It will be his first appearance against his former team. He was injured and did not play when the Bengals visited LP Field in 2011.

“It is a credit to him,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said of the 2006 first-round pick. “We drafted him and he came in here and made plays. … He had troubles, got in issues, but any time a player can find a way to recover from making mistakes and stay in the league, it is good for him.

“I know for us it was disappointing for all of us that he couldn’t be here for a long time because the fans would have enjoyed watching that kid play. But he has worked his way through it and I’m happy for him.”

Jones had roughly a half-dozen incidents involving police during his time with the Titans. The NFL suspended him for the 2008 season. The Titans then traded Jones to the Cowboys, who released him after one season. He landed with the Bengals in 2010.

“He was special,’’ Munchak said. “When he touched the ball, something fun was going to happen. We were hoping the off-the-field stuff wouldn’t catch up with him like it did.”

Jones declined an interview request from The Tennessean this week.

**** him, The Titan`s, gave him the most yearly contract he would ever get and he was caught up in being a hood rat instead of a young man who could have made his now family far better financially secure. Stupid **** had the opportunity to be great but sadly wanted street cred and flashy talk about his play.

Pacman would have been a top 10 Titan if he would have kept his head right. Even though he's still a solid player now, so much wasted talent with us.

He was the 2005 first round pick, not 2006 that was VY.

Sorry for the correction, just kinda bugs me when somethings wrong.

Get your heads out of football for a minute.

If a troubled person truly does turn their life around (and, of course, it could be debated whether Jones truly has), then you've got to be happy for him. Always wish well for others. We're talking about a human life here, not #s on a stat sheet or a commodity that had the potential to make your Sundays a little more enjoyable.

I always like pacman. He was a lot of fun to watch, and I really believe he would've been an all-time great Titan if it weren't for the off the field issues.

I remember going to my 1st ever training camp in 2006. They held it at Austin Peay that year, and you could get much closer to the players than you can at BSP. Pacman would interact with the fans while he was fielding punts before practice and would just joke around with us stuff ... seemed like a pretty cool dude. He gave his gloves to some little kid after one of the practices too.

Its just ashame he had to hang out with thugs when he wasn't playing

I am happy for him that he was able to turn things around though.

    No ****

This guy was on the fast track to murdering someone or getting someone killed. What Pac has done for himself has been great.
