How often has that strategy been working lately?? The new trend is now having players that can produce now instead of investing big money in them for 6 years and only getting 3 years of production out of them!

Teams are just drafting running QBs so they can run around for a couple of seasons before their knees gets blown into shreds.. which will happen. RGIII, Kaep, and Wilson won't have long term success running the read option. I'd rather have a guy like Locker and coach him into the next Steve McNair. Though he will probably never be quite that good, he'll still be a good starting QB, and he'll last longer.

Well I hope your right but by the looks of it so far it dont look good for Locker. This is his last chance this season. If he doesnt produce he will wind up a backup qb for a long time!

Hey at least we have a starting caliber backup again in Fitz! For all we know he could be the next Drew Brees! I mean, Brees was only considered slightly better than Fitz is now when he went to New Orleans.. Miami took Dante Culpepper over him

I recall when watching football in the vastly different pre-free agency NFL of the 70's and 80's (and trust me I was as huge a football geek as a kid/teen could be in the pre-internet days). I was always of the belief that it took a QB five full seasons to develop into a consistent player (including at least three as the starter). Some will show early flashes, but for rare exceptions even the good ones are annoyingly up and down. I remember how terrible Warren Moon looked in his first few season (despite 5 years of CFL under his belt). I often wonder if guys like Cam Newton and VY are not served well by having initial success. They get the false impression that the pro game is easy and invariably struggle in their sophomore years (and because of initial success and expectations, they don't handle that struggle too well). It seems few recall that people were calling for the then painfully inconsistent Eli Manning's head during the 2007 season (his fourth in the league), but Eli and the Giants caught fire in the second half of the season and went on to win the Super Bowl.

I'm not sure what to make of Locker. The one thing I do like is that he has all the physical tools to succeed and by all reports the correct attitude and work ethic to make it to the next level. I'd much rather have Locker than Dalton, Gabbert or any of the scrubs in this years draft (or any of the free agent QB's that came available this offseason).

Most of the flaws I noticed last year in Jake could be down to inexperience and lack of blocking. Much of the time he looked like a chicken with his head cut off (much like McNair in 95 and 96). I remember McNair's first play... he sprinted to the sideline, fired off the ball to no one in particular and got crushed. Playing time will slow the game down for Locker... and his oline should be much improved.

Or Locker may never develop at all. At this point we're just reading tea leaves.

If you would seriously go back now and talk Locker over Dalton then you are just being a homer and you lose all credibility!

Locker has more to offer, I'd take him over Dalton every time

I had that years draft as Newton, Locker, then Dalton, so I like Dalton, and I know what he's done so far, but Id still take Locker.

Ok out of all of those players only 3 were qb's. And Eli started out at least halfway decent in his first year as starter with these numbers:

    16
    294
    557
    52.8
    3,762
    6.75
    24
    78
    17

If I list more QB's would you shut up?
