If we had not signed Levitre i would be for drafting Lane Johnson. Plug him in at LG and he'll move to LT in a couple of years. He is a good player.

I actually prefer Fluker who is the third best all around o-lineman in the draft. Same thing, plug him in at RG and in a couple of years he moves to RT.

I totally disagree. Actually according to some stat sites Stewart has been a better pass blocker than a run blocker so your image of him is inaccurate.

I also disagree that somehow you don't need power run blockers any longer. The league is actually changing back to being less pass dominated and being more balanced. Look at the Pats last year. The Harbaugh brothers are run oriented coaches and their teams were in the super bowl.

The packers are desperately trying to be more balanced.

Let's end one myth right now. The league is not a pass only league. teams that are unbalanced are not being as successful.

Who are the emerging teams in the league? Seahwks, 49ers, redskins? All ran the ball more than 500 times last year.

The 2 super bowl teams averaged 30 rush attempts per game.

The Patriots were 2nd in the nfl in rush attempts with 523. That's 33 attempts per game.

The only really successful team in the nfl who ran less last year was the falcons but they have sick pass receiving talent and they had an aging less effective RB.

The notion that teams don't need a big mauling run blocking RT or guards is simply wrong.

Its never been a pass or run only league. Its a do what you do better than the other team can stop league.

Which is largely why we haven't been successful since McNair left. Outside of the year we went 13-3 we haven't done a single thing well on both sides of the ball at the same time.

If passing the ball wins games then what happened to the Lions? They were 2nd in passing yards, 1st in pass attempts and finished 4-12.

They have the best WR in the league and finished 4-12.

If they had any sense they would draft Chance Warmack and a power RB. They would look to be more physical and more balanced. It would help the defense and chance the overall attitude of the team.

They have LeShoure back there, they HAD a good thing with Best. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy, I bet he was going to be huge.

The were also 27th in scoring defense, funny how you left that out.

Obviously great offensive stats, don't equate to wins, many factors go into winning or losing a game. You do need to be able to stop the other team from scoring from time to time to, lol.

No power running back, what do you call Mikel Leshoure then? He's 6'0", 233 pounds!

Joique Bell is 5'11", 220 pounds.

    Those are power backs guy.

Both were pretty damn effective last year.

Those "emerging teams you quote" ran a very gimmicky offense which, most likely, will not last much longer... the zone read. It really took the NFL by surprise, but don't worry D-coordinators will figure it out and those numbers will surely go down. Not to mention, running that system is going to get your QB hurt, see RG3. Only one of those teams, Washington, had a top 5 offense. Washington 5th, SF 11th, Seattle 17th. Seattle and SF were #1 and 2 in scoring defense, that could also be a factor of them "emerging".

The Patriots were 2nd in rushing attempts, but you failed to mention they were #1 in total plays, by a lot. 4th in passing attempts too.

I'm not saying that the NFL is a passing league only because certain teams throw more that others. Mainly it's because the way the rules are set up, it means that when you do throw the ball teams are having more success. Illegal contact, personal fouls for helmet hits, it all equates to better passing game success.

Most people think that an offensive lineman has to "maul" the defender to be successful, that is totally wrong. You don't have to be a big lineman to be effective and you don't have to maul the defender into the ground. You need to occupy and, hook the defender and you don't have to be a mauler to do so. So in my opinion I'd rather have a quick footed lineman who can handle the speed rushers and hook and pull effectively than a big, fat mauler who gets run around by the Von Millers of the NFL.

I mentioned this in the offseason positional thread for OT. Since that time, I heard someone say Big Country wouldn't work well if moved to G. I can't remember if it was Mike Keith or someone else.
