The titans in the past have not placed much value in the bench for defensive linemen. Marks only lifted 16 times and Jason Jones 19 times and we took them in the 2nd rd.

I agree it is an indication of natural strength and work ethic. It is something that can be improved to some extent.

You have to look at total body strength and explosion.

And oh yeah, Margus Hunt ran a 4.6 40...talk about a dude that just made some money at the combine..

In Jones' defense, he has long arms, so he's really stronger than his bench would indicate.

But this Moore guy doing only 12 reps is alarming. He's already small weight wise so this will hurt his stock.

Plus how does a DE only bang out 12 reps? WR's do better than that.

My guess is those 12 reps came from combine training as well. So I imagine he couldn't rep 3/4 after the season ended.

Nailed it Steve. Margus Hunt is a terrible football player, with that size and speed he should of dominated at SMU. Instead he had 6 sacks & 28 tackles in the regular season... in the C-USA. Moore may not be "weight-room" strong but he dominated in SEC play.

I still don't want Moore, he reminds me of Wimbley.

I like Datone Jones(Similar to Morgan) more than Moore and he could be had at 39.

Hunt was not a terrible player at SMU he just didn't dominate so the issue is what they could do to coach him to reach his full potential. I still would not take him 10th and after watching lots of tape on Ansah i don't think he's worth a 10th pick either. Athletically yes but he has stamina issues that are obvious on tape especially when they use him inside.

I would rank Fluker higher than most of the defensive lineman we are talking about.

Ansah showed no endurance issues in the Senior Bowl and actually played better in the 2nd half. On paper guys like Hunt or Ansah are super stars but it is all potential. The thing is sometimes that potential pans out. After all we are talking about guys who have only been playing the sport of football for a few years and comparing them to guys who have been playing their whole life. I bet if either of these guys had another season of college ball to develop they could show more.

I've never understood why we test these guys to see how many times they can bench an arbitrary amount of weight.Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that work muscle hypertrophy and stamina rather then explosive strength? I mean, most football plays last less than 10 seconds and what we're looking for from these guys is explosiveness, so why not have them do a 3-5 rep max? You'll rarely see someone who lifts for power go over 8 reps on a heavy set. It's like running the 300 yd instead of the 40.
