I think this is his agent being greedy just like when he "requested a trade". I doubt Cook is even getting involved here. Either way, sounds like he wants to get paid. If we only had a playoff contending team he would at least have a choice to make between a ring or a check!

Yea this has to be his agent stirring up some BS trying to get him paid. He's a TE, and worth the TE tag IMO.

Honestly though... lets sign him long term. Lets say 5yr/25mil. Then, permanently switch him to WR.

He sucks as a TE, he can't block. I know he lines up 50%+ in the slot, so just make him a WR full-time. Then go out and sign a cheap TE for depth.

Cooks agent is just trying to get more money. Although I've argued he should be a WR for years, the fact is that Cook practices with the TEs, goes to the TE meetings, and was drafted as a TE out of college. It would be really hard for his agent to actually win the case that he is a WR.

In 2009 the Titans gave then free agent Nate Washington a six-year, $26.8 million contract for 631-yards and 3 TD's the year before (as a Steeler).

Cook just posted 523-yards and 4 TD's, so comparable numbers.

Is that really what Cook wants to do, declare himself a WR now?

Ok cool by me, we just rapped him salary wise.

If he goes to another team, I'm sure they will use him more than we did.

This is his agent doing his job.
Of course Cook wants to get paid.

So I don't get all the emotion from everyone.

Even if someone asked Cook to his face what Cook thought he was worth and Cook said 10 mil a year so flipping what. I bet everyone on this board if asked what they thought they were worth at their job would double whatever they are making or more as an answer. It is just business and his agent would be completely incompetent if he didnd't at least try to get Cook considered as a WR for the tag. Actually, it is also the smart thing to do anyway because with the Titans right now it puts some upward pressure on his contract talks. I bet the Titans are thinking 4 or 5 years at 5 mil a year. Cook is probably thinking the 6 mil is closer to what he wants for the next 4-5 years which obviously is a little higher than his value because he isn't one of the 5 top TEs in the league. He certainly isn't one of the top 5 WRs either so no way the NFL should allow him to get the WR tag.

In the end the NFL will keep him as a TE for tag purpsoes and Cook will be deciding between 5 mil a year over a number of years with maybe 10 or so upfront (which means he will get his 10 mil this year). If Cook is smart he probably should take the contract and the money. If he is not so smart we tag him and decide what to do with him next year. Now if the FO thinks this guys agent is off the reservation thinking Cook is worth way more than the 5 mil a year maybe you don't even bother tagging the guy and plan to move on with another FA TE.

Edit: six-year, $26.8 million contract as stated by JC as Washington's contract is more in line with what I think Cook is worth and what the Titans will off.
