The Titans are filling their open spot at linebackers coach from within – the team plans to promote Chet Parlavecchio.

Parlavecchio has served the last two seasons as special teams assistant with the Titans. He’ll fill the position formerly held by Frank Bush, who wasn’t retained following the 2012 season.

Parlavecchio takes over a group with some young, but talented players.

Under Bush’s guidance, second-year linebacker Akeem Ayers led the team with 101 tackles in 2012, and he also had six sacks and eight quarterback pressures. Zach Brown, a second round pick out of North Carolina, had 93 tackles and three interceptions in his rookie season, including two he returned for touchdowns in the season finale against the Jaguars.

The absence of middle linebacker Colin McCarthy clearly hurt the team all season, however – McCarthy missed nine games with injuries.

Parlavecchio joined the Titans prior to the 2011 after spending more than two decades as a head high school coach in New Jersey. He also spent two years as linebackers coach at Temple in 1992-93. He played linebacker at Penn State, where he was teammates with Titans coach Mike Munchak.

Parlavecchio is known for his high energy approach to the game. Several players have said he brought ideas to the special teams room that resulted in positive plays during the past two seasons.

Seems more and more clear that Munch thinks he's done after 2013 and he's determined to go down with "his guys" all around him, rather than actually bringing in any fresh voices.

Of course he promotes his college teammate, smart coaches laugh at Munchak when his number shows up on caller ID.

Meh, Munch hires all former Oiler/Titan guys, they're all gone when he gets fired.

    Sounds good to me.
