The Titans will use extra caution this week with middle linebacker Colin McCarthy and tight end Craig Stevens, who are trying to recover from concussions.

McCarthy has missed the past four games because of a concussion suffered in the first game against the Jaguars. He didn’t practice Wednesday and it looks increasingly unlikely that he would return for the season finale against the Jaguars on Sunday.

“The whole thing about the concussions is that you’re hoping is that (sometimes) guys won’t admit that they’re not feeling normal and they keep playing with it,” coach Mike Munchak said. “That’s gone on through the history of the game. Guys don’t want to say anything because they want to play.

“But I think (McCarthy) has gotten to where he is letting us know because he tried to get back and I think he’s realizing … that he’s not getting any better right now, so we just have to be real careful there. There’s no reason not to be.”

Stevens suffered a concussion against the Packers last Sunday and has suffered multiple concussions over the years as a college and pro player. He didn’t practice Wednesday, but said he’s feeling better.

Also sitting out practice Wednesday were running backs Chris Johnson (ankle) and Jamie Harper (ankle), center Kevin Matthews (ankle), cornerback Ryan Mouton (hamstring), wide receiver Damian Williams (foot) and linebacker Will Witherspoon (chest).

Wide receiver Kendall Wright (rib) was limited.

Munchak said he’s expecting Johnson, Harper and Witherspoon to return to practice Thursday or Friday. Williams said he expected to return to practice this week as well.

Agreed. Keep him on the roster for depth and find a reliable consistent replacement

I like McCarthy, but maybe he doesn't really have concussion issues, maybe he's just dumb as a block.

Draft Te'o... keep McCarthy as depth. Maybe limit him to certain defensive plays.

Basically, limit how much he plays... and maybe, MAYBE, we can get more out of him in the long run.
