This just shows you the spacing between different levels of competition. I was pretty good in high school and I'm always one of the best players at my local rec, but the only college teams that wanted me were D-3 schools.

Ditto. I always thought I was good until I played with a couple University of Illini guys... got my arse kicked.

Yeah, gaps are crazy. Was recruited by small divI schools, but I play with Barry Stewart here and there and he simply wont miss a shot. He coasts and kills us. The difference between people like me with offers from Lipscomb and Austin Peay vs schools like Miss State even are crazy.

This whole record is a sham and shouldn't count IMO. Here's why:

This coach is the biggest TOOL on the planet....His system is so disrespectful to the game of basketball IDK how he still has a job.

Basically this coach's philosophy is to take an absurd amount of shots, and more importantly an absurd amount of 3 pointers.

They full court press all game, trying to commit the initial turnover. If the other team breaks the press, Grinnell (The team that broke the record) will essentially LET the other team score to get the ball back quicker. Seriously. The Coach has been known to sub in 5 freshman to foul immediately to send the other team to the line in the bonus just so he can get the ball back without time coming off the clock.

Also if the other team breaks the press, Grinnell will play 4 on 5 on defense while leaving a man down court (cherry picking) to ideally score easy buckets. This was Jack Taylor in that game.

The coach looks at his schedule every year and picks weak competition to try and break a scoring record against, he does it as a PR move. He's done this a few times before, one of his players last year scored around 80 points and got an ESPN article, and another player scored I think around 70 and got a feature in Sports Illustrated. Usually the coach will sub out 5 players every 3 minutes, but against Faith Baptist Taylor stayed in, and he rarely passed the half court line to play defense.

Grinnell is Division-III. This team that Jack Taylor scored 138 points against isn't Division-III, they're not even NCAA!!! They're NCAIA whatever that is and they're not even division one at that, they are Division-II NCAIA. On top of that, it was a regular season for Grinnell, but for some reason for Faith Baptist it was an Exhibition game! That school only has 330 students total!

Even better, Grinnell was pressing and running up the score up 70 in the 2nd half. They were playing essentially a pickup team at the local YMCA. I'm confident anyone can call Faith Baptist and register at the school and voluntarily be on the basketball team.

Lastly, 75% of the other teams buckets were full court heaves to break the press to a wide open man for a layup. Last season when Taylor's teammate scored 79 or whatever it was, 90% of the baskets were the same way! This is not basketball!

Even with all that buffoonery. Taylor took 108 shots, only made 48% of them (not amazing), 38% of his 3's (even less amazing). He only had 3 rebounds which came off his own misses and ZERO assists. His teammates passed up SEVERAL wide open layups under the basket to kick it out to Taylor for 3 pointers.

This record was manufactured, total disgrace to the game.

    Agreed ^^

I played against Grennel two years ago, everyone hates that team. They're a joke.

Taylor is about to be on ESPN for his own segment. What a joke....ESPN should do there homework and instead of praise this kid make fun of him.

ANY D1, D2, or D3 athlete could score 138 on 108 shots and 71 three pointers. Any of them.

Shoot, if Kobe ever got 108 shots in a game he'd be crucified for it.
