You have to try and trade him for a second or above now.

Unless you REALLY think you can tag him next year and get him happy, which I doubt. If we cannot get a position of need, or anything higher than a third, we might as well just let him hit the market and likely get a third out of him in free agency and that is not absolute.

Heading into the season, the Titans and tight end Jared Cook had expectations of a breakout season, and possibly, a long-term contract extension.

At the midway point, however, Cook’s role in the offense has been less than anyone hoped for, and indications are a trade has been requested on the eve of the NFL’s trading deadline.

Cook’s agents declined comment, and Titans officials were not immediately available. It’s unlikely the team would consider trading Cook, however.

Cook, who’s in the last year of his deal, has 28 catches for 373 yards and two touchdowns on the season. He had a career high 49 catches for 759 yards and three touchdowns in 2011.

Cook played in just 25 of the team’s 59 snaps (42 percent) in the team’s 19-13 overtime loss to the Colts on Sunday, and was targeted just four times. He had three catches for 45 yards in the contest, and was overthrown by Matt Hasselbeck on what would have been a go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes.

Cook has played in less than 50 percent in six of the team’s last eight games, although his play was limited in games against the Lions and Texans after sustaining a shoulder injury.

Cook, who’s in the last year of his deal, has 28 catches for 373 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
