Rookie safety Markelle Martin, who’s been on the team’s physically unable to perform list with a knee injury, is expected to practice for the first time this season on Wednesday.

That practice will open a three-week for the Titans to evaluate him, and at some point during the window, the team will have to choose either to place him on the 53-man roster or on injured reserve.

Martin won’t count toward the 53-man roster until the decision is made.

A sixth-round pick out of Oklahoma State, Martin suffered a knee injury while training for the NFL Combine. He didn’t participate at all in training camp.

“He’ll be out there practicing on Wednesday and we’ll find out where he’s at,” Munchak said. “We have a few weeks to see how his health is. Again, he hasn’t done much since he was drafted because of the different injuries he had.

“Can he help us on special teams? Can he help us in the secondary?”

Tons of great players were injured when they were drafted. It's a good way to get value. A recent example would be Rob Gronkowski.

I remember him being projected as a second rounder as well until the injury. I thought that he was off the board when we picked him honestly. Hell if it counts for anything he got a pick for me online in madden today. I have him playing at backup to both safety's. Oh and Tommie Campbell and Sensenbaugh and 3 and 4 corners too. Mouton gets beat just as bad in the game as he does in real life!!!

Hopefully he is healed up, and can start playing! I hope he is as good as everyone says. Whos roster spot he would take if he was cleared to play?

Afalava is the obvious choice, but maybe they do something different.
