This is yet another reason we must switch to a 34...we have this overpaid scrub for a few more years, so we might as well(among other reasons) give this guy a chance to make plays at a position he's been successful at before, 34 olb.

I'm assuming Ayers could play OLB in a 3-4, would Brown be able to move into the middle?

maybe this should be a new thread.

It just seems so evident to me....Ayers and Wimbley are both natural 34 linebackers...what are we waiting on?

And yes, I believe Brown is a key piece in our defense. He plays with fire and he flies around the field. He can definitely play middle or outside. I have faith in this guy. lol

It kills me when i see posts like this. People forget about scheme fit and proper use of a player. Just because one isnt playing his best doesnt mean he sucks. Certain players play better in a certain scheme. Wimbley as a LB was a beast for Oakland. He can make do as a DE but lets face it, players who were good for us before are sucking now. Everybody isnt playing well, the coaching and playcalling and scheme are all jokes.

Same as last year. Were a defensive lineman grave yard of a team.

Wimbley would be more effective if they ran a 9 technique with the DEs. Line him up wide and let him take a good angle. He is too weak/small to take on the OT so he has to beat him with speed.

As for the 3-4 look I think Ayers would be a great OLB but if we switched right now a better alignment would be to use Wimbley as the OLB on the strong side and use Ayers and McCarthy as the middle guys. Ayers has lined up more in the middle than anywhere anyway this year since we run so much nickel.

As for Brown the only hope I see for that guy is maybe as an OLB on the weak side were he can use his speed to rush the end and occasionally drop into coverage. The guy is basically clueless, has no instincts so don't expect him to make reads. Just find a way to point him and let him go.

I think Morgan could play as a DE in a 3-4 (maybe on the right side) and Casey could play NT. Martin hasn't looked as good at the point of attack as I hoped he would and gets moved around too easily to play nose. It doesn't matter anyway because we would be in nickel so much anyway. But it might be ncie if we had Ayers, Wimbely and Brown potentially rushing from any angle instead of the old straight 4, get blocked and move down field to the new location of the ball past the first down marker. Heck, I haven't even see the DL hardly stunt.

If Wimbley was a beast OLB for the Raiders why were they willing to release him outright with no compensation at all just one year after giving him a new contract?

He was not a beast he was a dog who occasionally got a sack.

The Titans believed that playing as a down DE and rushing the passer every down would be the best way to utilize him but he has to do the job.

Jason Jones has 1.5 sacks and 2 PDs for the Seahawks playing as a rotation guy. Wimbley has 1 sack and no Pds as our top primary pass rusher. That's on him!

I remember in 2010 on opening day we played the Raiders. Wimbley was playing SAM on run downs and Stevens was using him like a cheap whore with a vibrator.

That was the last game when CJ looked like a super star back.

I don't expect Wimbley to dominate OTs on run downs just disengage and hustle after the ball carrier.

In Jevon Kearse's first 2 seasons with the Eagles he averaged 7.5 sacks, 6 PDs and 2 FF. That's what we should get for $7M! That wasn't even Jevon at his absolute best.

Opposing QBs have 181 pass attempts against us. 181 times the QB got the ball out and only 4 times we sacked the QB? That is f*cking unacceptable and Wimbley is supposed to be our main pass rusher!

Why does New England always let their best players go? They always believe they can find someone to step in and do their job. Just because he wasnt resigned didnt mean he wasnt good. Wimbley may not be a star but hes a damn good player. Not to mention the cap room he would of took up for being resigned. Beyond sacks, he got pressure. Hes a sure tackler too. Like i said proper use of a player is important too.
