We don't need him to carry the load, just spell CJ and change things up.

i'd only like a vet DL guy. preferably another end. no way would i spend much on an old running back. vet minimum maybe.

I agree with just about everything you're saying. I just think we can accomplish that without overpaying a 30 year old RB with 2,500 carries under his belt.

I love a power back. I've always been more of a fan of that kind of run style. SJax just scares me because of his A) age, B) carries, C) injury history, D) $$$ required to get him.

This is probably a worthless discussion anyway because I can't see S Jax wanting to play here anyway. As others have said, he'll most likely want to sign with a legit contender. And I doubt coming off the bench for CJ is very appealing to him either. Now if we want to dump CJ altogether and roll with Jackson and another back then that's another discussion entirely.

But as it stands right now, there are plenty of better destinations for him than Tennessee. We gotta look at it from his perspective as well.

Okay you've identified some holes in this plan so who would you want us to get. You know as well as anyone, a power back is one of many things we should look to add.

Fair enough. I am not overly attached to Jackson. Just want a solid NFL power back. Have ever since Lendale left. Not that I wanted to keep Lendale, I know he was done. Jamie Harper is a big guy but he is not a power guy. He is more like Skip Hicks or Ronnie Brown.

Not sure who's up for FA this year and I don't follow college as closely as most of you here so I can't really speak to any rookie prospects. But I was definitely in favor of us making a run at Tolbert this past offseason. A guy kinda like that is who I'd want to target. A tough proven vet, but without all the baggage. Good receiver. Good blocker. All around solid player. There are usually a few guys like that available each offseason.

We do not need the second coming of Earl Campbell. And we can handle an older guy who do not have a lot of nagging injuries. Even if CJ gets hurt he would not need to be the main guy. Still use Ringer and keep the power guy to change the pace.

Same here. We've gotta have a guy that can move the pile and at least not LOSE yards very often. I just think with a guy like SJax you'd kind of be paying for the name. Backs are so replaceable these days. If you have a good OL, and a half-way competent back, then you can have a solid run game. You don't really need those "superstar" guys anymore. Especially for the kind of money they expect.
