WOW, that's the most excuses given for CJ in one post in a long time!! Lets just sign all Pro-Bowlers on the OLine and make a deal with the devil so that Kenny Britt doesn't get injured or in trouble again so CJ can get his 75 yards per game!! Even if they created holes, he'd be going E-W, and if I remember correctly, they were just little screen passes, not rocket science type plays.

Plenty of Titans fans are already up in arms following Chris Johnson’s first performance, but he said Tuesday he’s not too concerned about a five-carry outing in the first preseason game.

Johnson, coming off his worst statistical season, gained just eight yards in the 27-17 loss to Seattle.

“It’s just the preseason right now,” Johnson said. “We’re still working, still in camp trying to get better every day. I just feel like it’s another step we have to take and (in the next preseason game), I feel like we’ll be comfortable and then we’ll take another step.”

He said he understands that some fans might overreact to the brief sample of work.

“I’m sure they do,” Johnson said. “It’s a thing you go through … But anytime you play against another team (in the presesason), you don’t really game-plan against them or anything like that. You’re just going out there basically like another scrimmage.”

Johnson did not, however, excuse the two dropped passes he suffered.

“Basically it’s a concentration thing, not looking the ball all the way in – trying to get up field and make a play,” Johnson said. “It’s just something I have to concentrate on and focus. I’ve never really had a problem catching the ball. It was just a preseason game and I had a few drops, nothing major to be concerned about.”

Johnson said he wasn’t sure how many carries he wanted in this Friday’s preseason game at Tampa Bay, but does feel that a better showing for himself and the entire first-team offense is a priority.

“I think it’s very important to go out there and get it going,” Johnson said. “I think everybody as an offense, I don’t think we had a great showing out there. We came out there on the first play of the game and had a pick-six, so it’s something everybody has to step up and try to play together, get a good game.”

I think that CJ is purposely dropping those screen passes to make Hasselbeck's stats look bad. I bet he catches the screens thrown by Locker this week.

I keep reading this. Why is that? If I were the coach, I'd want to get guys like Locker, Wright, Thompson, Brown, Martin used to the process. Watching film. Putting in a gameplan. All that stuff. I'd try to make it just like a regular season week, build good habits and all that.

Does anyone know why they don't?

Hmm, CJ actually owned up to the reasons why for the drops. Could be a good sign.

It really doesn't matter. The problem I have with this is that it's Vanilla on Vanilla, it's not like you're running your base offense against someone else's 3-4 Mad Dog Cloud Over. You should be able to run your base offense(Vanilla) against anything, you're calls are that much easier to make for protection and blocking assignments just based on alignment. So in the running game, you hit it and go, you see missed assignments, but the RB hits it, doesn't try to make Madden runs where he cuts all the way back other side of the field 2 times in 4 carries. That's a problem! Stay true to your lanes and press the hole instead of cutting all the way against the play.

Only preseason so not a big deal unless his regular season is like last year. CJ was rarely the best RB on the field last season. Seemed like some teams had 2 backs outplaying him. he would be better served keeping his mouth shut and trying to play better football. Nothing comes off more foolish than big talk and small play. Now reports are that CJ is looking good in camp. He did not look good in Seattle, but in fairness to him, he only played a small part of the game. I am looking forward to his big plays in the regular season. It is time for CJ to earn his money!

    Two reasons, IMO:

They don't want to show how they plan on creating mismatches for regular season games so defenses have time to scheme to stop it.

And, they want to evaluate individual players. If they keep it vanilla, the focus is one player on another and not getting an advantage through scheme.

I will forgive CJs stupid drops... It was preseason, but if he does some dumb **** like that costing us a real game later on... It's over.

I don't think they want to give much away.

Gameplanning and all that will be done from gametapes from last season anyway.
