After spending a decade of his playing career in Seattle, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck realizes Saturday’s return to that city will be different than just another preseason contest.

It will mark Hasselbeck’s first trip back to Seattle – in a playing capacity – since the 2010 playoffs, when Hasslebeck and the Seahawks upended New Orleans. Seattle lost the following week in Chicago.

“It will feel weird for me for sure coming out of the other locker room, the other end zone,” said Hasselbeck, who threw for over 3,000 yards in seven of his 10 seasons in Seattle.

“I spent a lot of time there and had a lot of geat memories. But at the same time, I’m thankful for the opportunity to get to go back because when I played my last game there, I didn’t expect it would be my last game there.

“And being (in Nashville), the chances of me ever playing there again are real slim, so I’m appreciative of the opportunity. It should be fun. Anytime you get to play against your friends, it’s fun.”

Hasselbeck had hoped to return to Seattle in 2011, but the parting between the two sides was still amicable. He tweeted out his thanks to fans after signing with the Titans, and the Seahawks bought a full-page ad in The Seattle Times to thank Hasselbeck for his efforts.

“I think everyone there knows how appreciative I am for their support,” Hasselbeck said. “We really wouldn’t have been able to turn things around there without the fan support. The 12th man … a lot of teams use that as a cliché, but it’s real there.

“The crowd noise, going back to the Kingdome days to now, is real. It’s a real advantage. You talk to quarterbacks around the league.”

I'm really looking forward to this game even though it's only the first preseason game for both teams. For the Seahawks, there's a three-way QB competition that Pete Carroll has to begin sorting out (although only Flynn and Wilson are going to play). And the Titans obviously have a two-way competition going.

Here's my prediction: Hass will start the first series and get a big standing ovation from the Seattle crowd. And then Locker, whenever he starts his first series, will get as big a standing ovation from the Seattle fans if not bigger. For sure an unusual situation, two QBs on a team located a couple thousand miles away from here and in a whole difference conference, locked in the most talked about QB competition in the league, gettin' love from fans on the road in their first head-to-head to see who's gonna be the guy this year for the Titans. Not sure I ever saw the exact situation before.

Yeah you may be able to hear a pin drop when both Hass and Locker are on the field. They are both beloved in the the state of Washington.

It's true. The majority of players come and go, and even if you liked them while they were playing on your team, once they're gone you don't think much about it. But Hass was popular and appreciated, and gave Seattle some good years and real good memories. And Locker was deeply appreciated for going to UWash when they were terrible and he could have gone anywhere, sticking through the program's turnaround when he could have left for the pros, and probably along with Sarkisian playing the biggest factor in UWash rebuilding their program from the cellar on up.
