Actually, that's sometimes exactly how it works. Jimmy Graham played one season of football at Miami, where he caught 17 balls.

The Saints took him in the third round.

Gronkowski's numbers at Arizona aren't eye popping either. And oh, he's some 25 lbs lighter and .1 seconds slower than Thompson. He went in the second.

Aaron Hernandez (who is also lighter and slower than Thompson) had 1,300 yards over THREE YEARS in college. He went in the fourth.

Antonio Gates had never played a down of football at all, let alone at tight end.

    ____

Starting to see what kind of potential bargain we got here?

Do i have to right 25 posts just to make the point that having a top quality QB is important to winning? Where did i say anything about an "elite passing game"?

The best teams seem to have the best QBs. This obsession with super bowls you have i'm talking about teams that win every year for a period of time normally have a top quality QB.

"How do you explain Pitt over Arizona? " Roethlisberger and Warner were top QBs duh. Both might be in the hall of fame someday.

Sure, but several of those guys are taken every year and you named two relevant examples. I remember Hernandez being very good in college. Chances are, it doesn't work out. I'm just saying you can't have it both ways, you can't want picks like this, then turn around and blast the front office for taking Chris Henry, trading for Cook, trading for Hayes, etc.

And, usually, much longer before you can make a final evaluation based on much more than speculation.

VY was Rookie of the Year.

We won't be able to properly evaluate this draft until after the 2014 season.

I felt quite comfortable judging the 1998 draft when the Titans left Moss on the board and took Dyson.

I disagree that fans should wait years before declaring the emperor naked.

If the WR dont get significant snaps and then produce with them then that OG would have been looking sweet at 1.20

If that WLB in the second only plays ST then that pick is looking suspect as well

if the third round DLman dont slide into the rotation then bust

Sensabaugh more like Rrrrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaacccccchhhhh I really have no idea what the guy can do too justify his selection in the 4th.

the DE/TE experiment will come too a conclusion pretty real soon IMO. Either an awsome pick or a waste

the 6th round S is a guy I hope can really play, but he will probably not be given a true chance what with #33 sissyboisafety sucking up all the snaps and antidepressants

the 7th rounder DE will be lucky too make the team. Any production will be a bouns IMO

I think by the third preseason game we can make an excellent judgement on this draft

We drafted from the deep areas of the prospects early.

Deep WR class, got arguably the 2nd or 3rd best in the draft.

LB, brown was rated as the top OLB back in November... 2nd round?!

DT... Took maybe the fifth best DT in the third round and got the best fit.

After the top three we went a bit off the radar, but a cb with 4.3 speed and good man skills along with dumb high football IQ.. It makes sense, grey has said before if you can get him willing players with the right athleticism into practice, he can teach them the proper techniques to succeed. Well here you go coach!

The freak TE is a good call. Giant hands, he wowed during the nflpa game. I think I remember he was in rotation with 4 TEs and got 2 catches worth like 55 yards. Gladly

The safety fell from the sky... Injury or not he's fast and hits hard. See what happens.

Solomon is dumb strong. Stupid aggressive. He makes the team.

The crying because we didn't take the top needs over the top of our board is really funny. Especially because we havent seen anything. And 3rd pre season game you're ready to call it a bust? Lol. What game did we finally see McCarthy last year? Where is Locker? Everyone loves that draft but the jury is still out...

We got ayers who isn't a world beater and isn't fast. Role player.

Casey who is a solid DT in the middle but gave up to much running room

Harper who most would laugh if I didn't already say bust.

Klug who is only a situational player

McCarthy who has been injury prone his whole career...

And some zack whatever cat that I never saw crap from...

Very average explosion from this draft people, but a few solid players...

Gut, you're crying like someone stole your candy.

The only pick I would say I really question is Sensabaugh in the 4th. I think with Hawkins and Campbell we at least have depth at CB, we could have gotten Sensabaugh a round or 2 later. The thing I really didnt' like about the pick is Malik Jackson was still on the board. How often does a disruptive, 280+ pound DE last that long AND at a position of need?
