To start Jeff Fisher never, ever had autocratic control of our drafts. Ever! So there was never a so called Fisher draft.

The old Reese-Fisher days as i remember them involved getting players with speed and athletic ability who might not have been outstanding college players. The results were mixed.

Wright is not a Reese-fisher type guy not because they hated WRs that much but because the guy Reese liked was a guy like Stephen Hill. Really big and really fast. Remember Calico?

Zach Brown is EXACTLY THE TYPE OF LINEBACKER WE LIKED. It was all about speed first. We had a defensive coordinator last year who talked about getting bigger and better against the run. Well Zach Brown doesn't fit that mold at all. We drafted for his 40 time the same thing Reese would have done! Bulluck-Keglar-Mcgrath all drafted for their foot speed.

Sensabaugh is another Reese-Fisher type guy. Not a top CB in the ACC at all but his workout times were like that of a first rd pick. His workout got him drafted. Reese did this all the time.

By the way isn't Cameron Wimbley just like the type of DEs that we had in the Fisher era? Speed rusher coming from that gap 9?

Speed was the main theme of this draft which is what Reese-Fisher always looked for. How is it that different?

Yeah, Sensabaugh was the worst pick of our draft IMO. He was a Fisher type pick, the rest are not. The difference is Fisher-Reese would have drafted 2 offensive linemen and the rest would have been on the defense. The Fisher philosophy of run + defense is clearly a thing of the past.

Webster realizes that the league has evolved into a passing first league - he's putting all the weapons in front of Locker to give him the best opportunity to succeed. Fisher gathered a bunch of scrubs (with the few exceptions being Mason/Britt) to catch the ball.

It's not only the players' credentials/stats in the draft, its the team's direction that has taken a full 180.

Fisher passed up on Blackmon/Floyd to draft Brockers. Who is Bradford gonna throw to? Brian Quick and Simms-Walker? I'm glad he's gone.

I always wondered how much input he had, but I found it odd that, all of the sudden, we have our best draft ever in 2011 as soon as Fisher is gone.

I actually think Calico was a great pick. The home town kid too. People need to stop hating on him. The guy woulda probably been a star in this league. In terms of stature, he's comparable to recievers like TO and Megatron, but actually with more raw speed.

I mean i've heard of people coming back from a bad knee injury (i'm praying to add Britt to that list), but this guy had 3 very very serious knee injuries in the course of like two and a half years. Thats a lot (and i mean A LOT) to ask anybody to come back from. I think he tore his ACL 3 times and MCL twice....

If he was a slacker or a 'bad character' guy i wouldn't be writing this either. I think its time people lay off of him...

Another point people usually forget is that 2 of those 3 knee injuries happened as a result of a horse collar tackle.

I didn't bash Calico at all i just said that he was a typical guy Reese-Fisher would have coveted and Stephen Hill was that type of guy not Wright. Calico despite his size and speed was not a dominant WR at MTSU. When he ran a 4.37 40 at the combine his stock went up 100 picks.

As for Sensabaugh i don't hate the pick, just that he never even made honorable mention all ACC. We drafted him for his workout.

Maybe fisher placed too much confidence that his staff could take a good athlete and coach him up. You can't teach speed so they drafted that and this draft that was the emphasis.

I don't think it's fair to lump Brown in with the other LBs just yet because he was selected to fill a specific need. They wanted a guy who fits their scheme. There wasn't an OLB on the roster outside of Ayers that could defend an athletic TE. Asking Ayers to do that in passing situations takes him off the line where he excels. They targeted a LB who could guard that type of player in that type of situation and they liked Brown the best. I don't like the pick myself as there were other LBs on the board that I think were better value and could have filled the need, as well as other players who could have filled other needs, but Brown doesn't into your argument, IMO.

You said yourself Wright wasn't a Fisher-type pick. He would have wanted the bigger receiver whether he fit what they needed or not. He would have gone Hill (if WR at all).

Sensabaugh is a typical Fisher pick and one that will have to surprise a lot of people to change their minds.

I think a real Fisher-type pick would have been Mercilus in the first round. Fish would have taken JPP in 2010 thinking of Kearse and Mercilus is that same kind of athletic but unproven talent that JPP was. This staff proved their changing philosophy not only by taking WR when it wasn't a glaring need but by passing on a guy with huge upside but not much production in a position of need. Whether or not that change in philosophy is good will be seen later on.

I didn't like the Sensabaugh pick, but I'm starting to warm up to him. I like guys that keep working hard and pay their dues and it looks like he did a great job. All-conference is political. Minnefield got All-ACC and he really struggled.
