Well, I didn't really mean it to be a contest but just counting the three grand tours (Tour De France, Giro Italia, and the Tour of Spain) there have been nearly two dozens deaths over the years. There are hundreds of smaller races around the world each year. I myself had the misfortune to be in a race where a racer died years ago. The human body, particularly the skull, and pavement at 40-60 mph do not mix very well.

I will give soccer the point that they, almost without exception, play the game on the date and time scheculed. Think of it this way the Nordic countries play the same season as the Medeterranian countries. I have heard of some games in Norway being played on actual frozen fields and they definatly play thru rain of any ammount. I have no clue if games are stopped for lightning but the only reason NFL stops is so the fans have a less chance of successfully suing the NFL - IMO

Well in other countries, people aren't looking to sue everyone as a get-rich-quick scheme. Whole 'nother convo though.

Easy DW...not taking sides but it does seem that in tris and even just marathons racers are pushing their bodies to the brink.

Soccer is the world's sport...it's hard for most Americans to watch the sport let alone enjoy it because they aren't invested in the teams..meaning they don't understand it and don't know how the season is played out and everything.

It is a much tougher sport than most realize.

Imagine being in a full sprint to a 50/50 ball and not seeing an opponent running just as fast to win the ball. You decide to attempt a simple touch to direct the ball where you can continue to dribble and the opposing player decides to take a shot or long pass. Say he only swings his leg with half of the force he can, and say you even 'win' that 50/50 ball; you plant your foot after redirecting the ball and the opponent has already begun his kicking motion. Fast forward a few milliseconds you get cracked anywhere from your knee down (remember you both were trying to win the ball so you both were sprinting hard). So you now have anywhere from torn ligaments (knee blown out), broken leg, shattered ankle.

Only thing that I hate about soccer is the players that give the sport a bad name..the ones who fake injuries/dive to get calls. It's pretty sad and it has even rubbed off into the women's side of the sport.

Dunce your ignorance once rears its ugly head. They are smaller true, but most weigh in between 140-170 lbs. And by the way, transportation device that they are the engine for. Beyond a doubt the fittest athletes in the world, period. On a serious note, make sure you kid wears his helmet.
