I'm happy with this deal (if it goes through).

Yes, Samuel is 31. Well Woodson is 35, Champ Bailey is 33, Nnamdi Asomugha is 30 (will be 31 once the season starts). 31 really isn't that old for CBs, he still has a solid 2-3 more years under his belt IMO. A 3rd round pick for a pro-bowl CB, who made 4 pro-bowls in a row (until last year when he got less play time and was banged up). Asante also is a 2-time Super-Bowl champion and would bring vet presence to a young defense.

Sounds like the pick could be a 3rd depending on his play. Chances are the Titans could land a 3rd round pick next year in compensation picks due to the loss of Finnegan.

I am also curious if we will have Asante sign an extension before a trade.

Really don't have a problem with it. Philly doesn't need his contract nor his talent really. They have Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie. Not saying either had great seasons last year, but they want nothing to do with Samuel's contract. We'll restructure and get a trade for him. A 3rd round pick really isn't that much to ask for. The way I see it now, go D-line/O-line in the 1st and 2nd. Take whichever has the better prospect whether it's on the offensive line or defensive line and do the same in the 4th and 5th rounds as well.

Meh... I don't see him fitting here.

Maybe he can play safety. (lol)

As much as the whole PantyBoy pursuit made me mad, this is the most fun I think I've ever had in an offseason for us. I miss Jeff Fisher even less than my green 6th grade braces.

    Well...

A few things. Gregg Williams and Fisher (when he was a dc) much preferred pressure defenses and predominantly man coverage. Problem was, guys like Rolle cost a lot to keep and with teams going to 3 wide passing attacks, teams started playing more Tampa 2 (zone).

Under Schwartz, we made a radical shift and went zone predominantly. Understand Gray learned a lot under Williams and prefers man BUT he adjusts - like all great coaches do - to what the players do best. Gray has even said if a guy plays better in off man, he's not gonna make him press.

I think Gray wants to return to more man coverage, but we need good cb's AND a pass rush and we've been missing the second part since babin left.

Also keep in mind we had virtually no offseason for Gray to install a completely new defense. Even still he did a lot and found things that worked and things that didn't (like our MLB situation). I will be very interested to see what Gray comes up with on defense this year but we need to get him 'weapons' too!!!

And really, ask yourself this question, if we faced the broncos, saints, falcons, packers, or giants, can we handle those passing games based on what we have at cb and s? I don't think so.

    Gut
