I set the bar at 1985 because the game was much different before then... You look at a guy like Terry Bradshaw... and if you put his stats in todays NFL... He might not even make it in the league and he's probably have a promising career as a car or insurance salesmans... but in the 70s, it translated into all those superbowls.

So, you are burned out on football? Yeah right! Here you are debating at length about QBs over the age of 35 and winning super bowls. I'd say you are a football fanatic.

Do you think that all of a sudden at the age of 35, Peyton will lose his ability to read a defense, his accuracy, and his quick release? If this Oline signs a good center, Peyton, and Britt stays healthy this team will be very very hard to beat. I know Peyton will be able to convert third and shorts all day long and the defense will be laughing as it rests on the sideline most of the game.

I'm slowly burning out on football. You are entitled to your opinion. I happen to think we will be hard to beat with #10 behind center as well.

If I had to pick Drew Brees or Peyton Manning, I'd pick Brees all day, every day.

I say this because Locker reminds me alot of a young Drew Brees. The comparisons will just slap you in your face if you compare their highlights.

But we DON'T KNOW how good he is Now. He hasn't played in a year, he is 36 years old, he has had multiple surgeries on his neck, he likely will have ongoing problems with his disks, according to his doctors. These are the realities. So in evaluating these items, we make a decisions on whether we take a chance with him or not. Bud appears to be willing to make him his adopted son if he will sign(I exaggerate of course), but you get the point. Bud wants a SB ring NOW, and he thinks he can get one with Peyton, and he may very well be correct. What are the odds that he is right? I don't know, but I wouldn't go more than 50-50, if that. We assume that PM's overriding reason for choosing a team is whether it can get him another SB win. That may or may not be the reason, because he hasn't said. But if it is, then he is going to choose that team that HE feels has the best players to get that done. Do we have that? Are we going to get it? ?????? Some of us would mortgage the farm and the kids to get him. Others would not even bother calling him. I'm one that thinks we were fine before him and we will be fine with or without him. I don't really care who he chooses. Life will go on and we may or may not see him get another ring. But in the end, it isn't up to any of us fans. It's up to Bud. And if Bud can buy him, he surely will.

Your first name has nothing to do with athletic ability or injuries. Your age does. I know you are trying to be funny but everyone here seems to discount the fact that age has nothing to do with athletic ability. You aren't comparing apples to oranges... you're comparing apples to cinderblocks

Given the criteria...The odds of a QB over 35 winning the superbowl are about 600 to 1... So in percentages... its no where near close to 50-50. In round friendly numbers, it's like 99-1... actually a lot less than 1% for Manning to ever win another Superbowl. Eli has a much better chance at winning another SB than Gayton does

So, you're saying that at age 35, athletic ability deteriorates and injury increases to the point where a Superbowl win is out of the question? Regardless of prior ability or lack of injury in said 35+ year old QB? And, every person begins this spiral into oblivion at the age of 35?

I'd love to see the research that brought you to this conclusion.

Peak endurance performance is maintained until ∼35 years of age, followed by modest decreases until 50–60 years of age, with progressively steeper declines thereafter. Among the three main physiological determinants of endurance exercise performance (i.e. maximal oxygen consumption Graphic, lactate threshold and exercise economy), a progressive reduction in Graphic appears to be the primary mechanism associated with declines in endurance performance with age.

    January 1, 2008 The Journal of Physiology, 586, 55-63.

In other words, athletes have reached their peak before age 35 and decline thereafter.
