The second is that he just isn't one of the top five corners in the NFL. He is a really good player, yes, but they would be paying him more than $10 million for this season. Everyone has been raving about the $30+ million of cap space the Titans have. Franchising Finnegan takes up 1/3 of that, and they still have to sign other guys and draft picks.http://http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/section/news

    So far we signed:
OT Mike Otto 2012 salary 1.13 million
WR Lavelle Hawkins 2012 salary 1.26 million
TE Craig Stevens 2012 salary 2.13 million
    Lamar Divens 2012 salary 540,000
    http://http://residualprolixity.blogspot.com/2012/01/2012-tennessee-titans-estimated-salary.html
    Franchise tagged:
Michael Griffin 1 year 6.2 million

That's 11.26 of our estimated 35-30 million leaving around 25-20 million

    Other free agents:
    Jordan Babineaux
    David Ball
    Cortland Finnegan
    Ahmard Hall
    William Hayes
    Chris Hope
    Jason Jones
    Barret Rudd
    Jake Scott
    Tim Shaw
    Anthony Smith
    Fernando Velasco
    Patrick Bailey

Who I think should be back Bailey, Velasco, Shaw, Babineaux (is in contract talks), one or two of our defensive ends

That still leaves center, both guards/depth/starters, safety depth/starter, defensive line/starters/depth, possible linebacker.

People see we have 35-30 million in cap space, but in reality with a couple quick signings we are already down to 25-20. Also, with 13 more set to be free agents we warrant the risk of losing 2 special team aces along with depth at linebacker, almost all our defensive ends, 3 of our 4 safeties.

It will be interesting to see exact numbers when free agency begins...

Babineaux, Bailey, and Shaw are absolutely back, they're all no brainers like Stevens and Otto were. The only surprise signings were Hawkins, now Griffin so I still think there's a chance Jones comes back.

I think there's a small chance we bring Ball back too.

The rest of those names are all goners.

Velasco is a RFA and will probably be tendered

Also, the Titans could do worse than having Anthony Smith as a backup. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in training camp competing for a spot as a backup/special teamer again. Depth at safety is a problem.

We also might possibly cut a few guys (Shaun Smith/Amano/Graham as examples) which can add back money to the cap as well.

We have plenty of wiggle room if we wanted to sign a big FA or two...which we probably won't but who knows.

Yep, no way Titans let these guys go, and hopefully they all come relatively cheap too. I'd say Velasco is 100% back too.

We should really focus on bringing Jones back. I'd like to see Hall back also for the right price.

And if Ball doesn't retire, he'll be back for another 1 year/1 mil deal. Seems like we enjoy having him around. Must be a good locker room guy.

The point to this discussion was directed towards people who believe that we are able to sign a big free agent or multiple big free agents. When a core of our team depth and special team are free agents this year. Babs and Jones if they come back will warrant a bigger contract, while Shaw and Bailey will be compensated decently for being special team leaders for us. Like I said it would be interesting to see who we keep, it would make sense to cut some dead weight at the defensive tackle position.

I can almost promise you Graham is gone, he just makes far too much money to keep when he's not getting better.
Sadly Hall is damaged goods. Lots of head shots over the last 5 years. He may seriously want to consider retiring or risk having health issues down the road.

Tagging Griffin with that 6 Million clams sure did take a big chunk out of that cap space didn't it.

We're about to see what this FO is really made of when FA kicks off. We will probably just end up re-signing our own guys and not much more but I hope I'm wrong.

We sure do resign our backups and reward "special teamers" that is for sure. I have not been very impressed so far.
