I know many, well nearly everyone here is not a cycling fan but this is HUGE. Contrador was found to have had a very small amount of clenbuterol, which is a weight control drug banned in cycling. Contrador will be forfeit his victories in the 2010 Tour de France and the 2011 Giro (which is the Tour of Italy, the second biggest race in the world and my personal favorite). Would the NFL act similarly if down the road, after HGH testing comes in next season, a player comes up positive?

2.4 millions Euros fine is a good chunk of change but with a retroactive ban he can ride late summer but too late for the TDF.
It has also been decided that no charges will be filed against Armstrong.
The NFL will be a lot more liberal I think. The WADA has been refining testing on cyclist for years.

If the NFL did serious steroid/drug testing there'd be no credibility left to the sport.

Ray Lewis would have retired 5 years ago also.

Cyclists, batters and swimmers need PED's to make their sports fun to watch.

The reason it's bad for football players to juice up is because they could end up snapping you in half by accident.

I guess I'm the only one who couldn't care less if athletes are on steroids...

I don't. If they just allowed it... all would have the same opportunity and it wouldn't be "unfair" for any.

It's not quite that simple. First of all, it's illegal. Second, if players were allowed to use steroids unchecked, a lot would start dying at a young age (and doing other crazy steroid stuff like murdering their families, like Chris Benoit from the WWF did).

I think the NFL's current stance of being officially against it and (sort of) trying to prevent its use, but ultimately not really giving a crap about it is the perfect balance. Players can use stuff like HGH if they really want, but they can't just all-out abuse it.

Actually under the new bargaining agreement they will be tested for HGH, union is slow walking it.

Nope. I'm with you on this one...

I don't want the NFL to end up like baseball and do hardcore testing. It would ruin the game. Their bodies, their choice.

I don't care one way or another.

If the NFL wants to institute HGH testing then go for it. I think it will be amusing to see guys who are 6'6" 370 disappear from the league within three years.

And Chris Beniot had significant brain damage, so it's very debatable as to whether he killed his family because of steroids.
