My daugher was accepted to Vandy (early decision) 6 weeks ago. Since that time, I've become interested in Vandy's B'ball team. Looking forward to watching the end of the season run. They play really good D and have decent balance in and out of the paint on offense. They lost a few games in OT against ranked teams. I think that's why it has been hard for them to get back in the top 25. Thinking about dropping some coin for tix to the Vandy v UK game next week.

Playing at Arkansas tonight 8:00 CT. ESPN3 covering.

Anybody else interested in this team?

Vandy/UK would be a great game to go to.

I don't see any way Vandy can win, but I think they'll keep it close for a while at least.

That's impressive that your daughter got in to Vandy. I have a friend who had a 33 on the ACT and 3.9 GPA and they wouldn't let him in. I applied with a 3.6 and a 26 on the ACT... Rejected.

Vandy has wacked out acceptance policies. Very affermative action oriented and they make no appologies about it.

But they are a private school and can do as they please.

Aahhh they lost last night. They have a tough time winning the tough ones that count.

They should make the 64 still. Interested to see how they do in the SEC tourney since they can't seem to win the big ones.

Are you just spewing a bunch of inflammatory rhetoric or is there some objective criteria upon which you have based that conclusion?

I expect Vandy to do some damage in the tourney. They can suffer on the road but I think they'll get it together come elimination time. Very stout team of veterans

She is an impressive person- very committed- way better student than I ever was. (As is her mom.)

Anyway- from the way you communicate sounds like Vanderbilt's loss. I was rejected from several places on my application. FWIW, don't ever let ANYBODY or ANY institution dictate how you feel about yourself. (see my sig :) )

I was told MANY times I'd never achieve my goals but every one of those people and institutions can eat it now. It took me a few years to "wise up" and get good study habits but once I did, I got in med school and wound up at the top of my class. Went on to a prestigious residency and ivy league fellowship. I've written textbook chapters and numerous articles in my specialties. My point is simply- You WILL be what you commit yourself to be. If you have a definite vision and desire of what you want to do, NEVER give up on it. It will happen if you are willing to sacrifice enough of your life and DEDICATE yourself to achieving that goal.

Don't let this guy work you up RavensShallBurn, you were REJECTED for good reason!

Totally joking dude, hope you know that. Yea man, you seem pretty smart, from your posts anyways, you can do anything as long as your determined to do it.

And to Riverman, congratulations on being a good father! Could use more of those in this world. Your daughter sounds like a great kid. How good is she? Any dreams of going pro?

I wasn't expecting to go to Vandy anyways... I knew it was unlikely. Plus I don't know anyone who goes there.

I'm about halfway done with school. I'm just spending this semester looking at other schools and weighing my options. Realistically I'll end up at UT.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Vanderbilt University, which was among the universities to file amicus curiae or "friends of the court" briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School in their efforts to defend the principles of affirmative action in college admissions, today has issued a statement in response to the court's rulings in the cases:

"The Supreme Court today affirmed a vital precept, namely that it is in the public interest to prepare students for the complexities of a world in which diversity of background, perspective and thought is growing every day. Based on our initial review, we believe these decisions will not directly impact Vanderbilt's policies and programs. Selective private institutions like Vanderbilt continue to have the ability to apply a number of factors, including race, in the selection of students. At the same time, Vanderbilt is committed to providing opportunities for all students to learn and lead in a diverse environment."

take it for what it is. Vanderbilt holds itself seperate from Nashville and veiws itself as an east coast ivey league school. It is like the movie Breaking Away. Vanderbilt views the locals with utter contempt
