Boclair has taken over for Kuharsky in the morning on 104.5. Today he said that he didn't see how the Titans could keep Finny when you already have 2 good starters in Verner and McCourty along with nicklebacks Tommie Campbell and Ryan Mouton.

What on earth have Campbell and Mouton shown to say that they could replace Finny in the NB role. Mouton has shown he is injury prone and can muff punts. Campbell has shown he is a great special teamer who can be undisciplined if someone gets under his skin.

Now we certainly might not be able to keep Finny, but it isn't because we feel great about Mouton and Campbell. Chris Hawkins has shown more at CB than either of them have.

Also we are going to have to spend our money on somebody...I heard Ruston Webster yesterday say that we are currently 30mil under the cap.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that the Titans think Verner/McCourty will be a strong corner tandem. Why would the Titans invest a huge contact into Finnegan when the drop-off to either Verner/McCourty is slight?

Surely the Titans can turn Mouton/Campbell or a FA/draft pick into the nickel.

I don't necessarily agree but can see why the Titans value for Finnegan might not be as high as a team who is in dire need of a CB.

Personally, if I have the choice of resigning Finnegan or getting a prime DE and S, it would be a tough decision. With $30M in cap room, I do hope the Titans can achieve both though the Titans are prone to sit on their hands the first week of free agency and bargain shop.

For the record, I approve of "sitting on their hands and bargain shopping" the first few days of free agency.

It's the drop off at nickel that is concerning. Finnegan = best nickelback in the league.

Not many teams have the depth or talent to use their 2nd and 3rd CB as their 1 & 2 then slide their best corner to nickel in those situations. It is a luxury we will sorely miss next year if we don't re-sign Finny.

I agree with ya. No need to go out and over spend in the 1st week or so. past experience shows it doesn't work...look at the Eagles last yr, when the Redksins signed Albert, etc

The issue becomes similar to why the Titans would not invest big money at MLB a few years back. If a player isn't on the field but 60-70% of the time, why invest huge money at the position? The Titans don't value that position as much as other teams might.

If the nickel is only on the field 30-40% of the time, it doesn't make sense to overpay. In Finnegans case, he plays outside and moves in. But if the Titans see Verner/McCourty as being good enough to both play outside 100% of the time, finding a replacement at nickel is a lot easier than finding a solid pass-rusher at DE or a safety the caliber of some of the league's best.

I hope the Titans resign Finnegan but his value is going to be viewed differently by different teams depending on how they plan to use him.

Have a bad feeling that without Finnegan, we're going to see McCourty exposed.

He's never really impressed me, anyway. Seems like any time there's a big play, it's usually on his side of the field.

Finnegan's leadership and spark (1 out of 2 players on our entire defense that have any) is something you can't replace.

I approve whatever it takes to win a Superbowl. If one of the 1st day big $ free agent signings helps us do that, then I'm all for it.

With questions at both safety positions, we need to retain Cortland. Verner is too slow to be our 2nd CB. Verner has great instincts, but he's just too slow to be our 2nd guy on a regular basis. He WILL get exposed, and WTF are you talking about Deuce, McCourty is one of the leagues best CB's right now.

If we don't cut Mouton, I will lose it, he's the worst ever. Single handily lost us 2 games in 2009.
