For this thread, we'll just assume CJ will be #1 on opening day. This is a discussion about Harper and Ringer.

Harper has looked good in his portion of the preseason carries. This holdout situation is really a good thing for us in the sense that we get a good look at our 2 and 3 guys, who are competing for that second spot. Before the lockout I would have said Ringer is a shoe in for the number 2 role, but Harper is stating his case. I wish I would see him run north and south with a little more force at times, but he still seems to be a good instinctive runner. I like the competition in this area, because I think when we DO get CJ back, we need to think about using him in a more effective manner. Like a two back set, with Harper/Ringer taking 25-30% of the carries.

How are you feeling about our RB situation behind CJ?

I'd say that with, or without, CJ we seem to be in good shape at the position.

But, as every day goes by, I don't like the chances of CJ returning to camp. Or to this team.

You could get anyone to run through the holes our Oline was opening up the other night.

I like Harper more than Ringer. Ringer just doesn't seem to cut it for me and I played the position years.

Here's what I don't like about Ringer. And FYI, this isn't promoting Harper, but Harper hasn't had the same opportunity to shine like Ringer has.

    1) He doesn't break a lot of tackles. He'll gain the yards your supposed to get but he doesn't have a lot of moves to extend runs or gain extra yards.

    2) He doesn't have great quickness. If your going to be a smaller back in the league you've gotta be quick. Because he's so short and stocky he seems to be lacking the wiggle to be very effective at the position. If he had the power I'd give him a pass, but he aint runnin nobody over. Nobody.

    3) Backups are just as good. Harper and Johnson have done just as well as him in their pre-season snaps. Ringer doesn't need to be "as good" as the backups, he needs to be clearly better. Ringer has had his shot, its time to give the backups a shot.

Harper needs to stop dancing like a b*tch and get downfield, destroying DBs, utilize his size.

I almost fell off my couch during the game against the Vikings. He ran out of bounds a yard short of the first down after a nine yard run without being touched once. You need to be tougher than that...

What shot? He hasn't had but 59 carries in 2 seasons. He is a backup!

All Ringer has done is play well every preseason and when he has played in the regular season.

He averaged 4.7 yards carry last season. What more do you want from a backup?

Among our three backs who make the team CJ, Ringer and Harper Ringer is the most north south guy we have.

    Ringer is a damn backup!

He is only 24 years old and you would think he was 34 and was playing for Jeff Fisher since 2001. Time for change!

I like Ringer, he isn't super fast, he isn't super powerful, but he is a good runner, to me anyways he seems to make the most of every play he gets.

I think if CJ would sign his damn contract and get ready he too could take advantage of all those holes the offensive line is opening up.He could easily have a season like he did in '08 and '09.
