McNair had to sit out plenty of games too you know. BTW, tear an mcl and see how comfortable you feel dropping back and dodging defenders before you start judging any player's toughness in the NFL.

    Insanity.

I hope that you won't be as quick to throw him under the bus when he inevitably messes up.

Not too many will disagree but the fact is Mcnair was way tougher than VY when it came to playing with or battling injuries.VY would've never made it through 2003 or even attempted to play through some of the pain Mcnair was playing through then.Mac was definitely known for his toughness and playing through injuries.

I think it was a MNF game vs the raiders in 2002-2003? He was in so much pain and before the game Madden was talking how he needed help walking to the interview & to the locker room. Then came time to play and he was possessed.
Mac didn't just play hurt he often played better when hurt.

Yea Vince is soft, and McNair went to battle no matter what. But this is Locker's time, and he looked damn good out there. titanfantilidie, I hope we do have another Manning/Rothelisberger-type of guy on our hands. I saw things that made me think Philip Rivers, minus the doucheyness.

    Be careful

I would be careful comparing the #s.

Looking at most of the preseason it appears a lot of the young QBs looked decent (even Ponder if you recall, though he was forced to run for his life often).

As you are aware, the preseason often has some pretty vanilla schemes - but I wonder if the shortened practice time meant that the defenses were bare bones basic and that made it easier for the young QBs to adjust without having to know all the offenses, or account for all the defenses.

I just wonder if the shortened practice time is making all the QBs perform better than they normally would.

Even good QBs take a while to become good, McNair took several years, I recall Matt H getting booed for over a year by the Seahawks faithful (in the Dilfer vs Matt debate that ensued).

Locker is going to have some clunkers, it is part of the learning process. Just as Ponder will, Gabbert will and even Mr. Mary Jane up there playing for the the Pats.

What is telling is that Locker looks like he is adjusting his approach, learning, and it also appears that he CAN be reasonably accurate - which I believe was a concern on your side (he actually throws the long ball well, and does a great job on the fades..so we knew this already). His footwork is improving and he is stepping up in the pocket more, I think I only saw 2 balls sail on him in the game.

Also, because most NFL pressure defensive techniques essentially try to put pressure on the QB to have to run and ideally throw across his body - Jake will be very hard to defend because he does that VERY VERY well.

But I expect to see some really bad games from him as he progresses and so should you.

It is part of learning to be an NFL QB.
