Directors whose films you find tough to watch

    I loved 300 when I first saw it in iMax.
    I've watched it a couple of times since and it now feels painful to watch. It was different and stylish but has no substance.

    I never read the Watchmen graphic novels so watched 'Watchmen' as a noob to the story.

    I hated it. I appreciated how much effort had gone into translating the look of the graphic novel onto the big screen.

    The plot however was a disjointed and unsatisfying mess.

    Suckerpunch was just a number of bizarre scenes linking together a number of pop video action set pieces.

    It was awful.

    Now he's doing a Superman reboot and his attachment alone kills it for me.

    I like the Superman comics over the years and inspite of all the crap hollywood has given us still have an interest in seeing it done well.

    I chose not to watch superman returns by Bryan Singer because it sounded awful after reading what was planned and who was in it.

    I don't think a Chistopher Nolan producing credit or David Goya co writing the script can redeem a Snyder project. The man should not be given money to write or direct anything.

    He's Uwe Boll with a bigger budget.

    I generally like both guys work, although Kubrick was either a HR (2001, Clockwork Orange) or a K ( AI, Eyes Wide Shut ...)

    I've only seen three Snyder films.... Watchmen, 300 and the Dawn of the Dead remake. I loved Watchmen and DotD. Thought 300 was pretty bad and overrated. So he's 2 for 3 with me. He's certainly not a modern master or anything, but I'm glad he's out there making movies right now.

    Spielberg? Really? I assume you're only talking about his work in recent years?

    I've had this conversation many, many times with other movie nerds. And I'm of the opinion that for the vast majority of movie goers, it IS indeed about entertainment over art/craft. And I don't hold that against them or think they're rubes for feeling that way. I'm confident if you polled the entire population Family Feud style about what matters most to them when watching a movie the #1 answer would be "entertainment".

    BTW, I personally love Kubrick. But I can see why he isn't everyone's cup of tea.

    I guess the obvious answer here is M. Night Shyamalan, but I haven't seen anything of his other than The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. I'm not completely familiar with the unbearable garbage he's put out since those.


    Souldn't be watching that movie in the first place!!!
