The actual quote (above) isn't as bad as the thread title. I have no problem with what Reinfeldt said.

Billy Volek took arguably 5-7 years to develop. And that was getting "lucky" with a 3rd string QB.

Any developmental QB has to fight for his roster spot every year until he's proven he can hold down the #2 spot.

Rusty Smith has yet to show he has even Volek-caliber ability. I do get the excitement of drafting one of these QBs and rooting for their development. I don't really get all the angst that surrounds the development of Smith, though. Realistically, he did pretty well to survive his first season and actually start a game.

Either he earns his spot or it goes to another position of need. That is the unfortunately necessary bottom line.

well the Titans started kfc/VY so the bar is pretty darn low for starting QB in Nashville.

Minny just took Ponder at #12.. if Webb is released or traded I'd be on it for our #2 going forward..

Not sure what you mean. Mike Reinfeldt is not new. The coaching staff is but it was MR who said that not Munch or Palmer.

:rolleyes:Munch was not the one who said that about Rusty Smith so his comment is meaningless.

You are giving Munch credit for something the GM said.

Excuse me but in the interest of being picayune or argumentative can i ask one more question?

Why was what MR said so appealing to many of you?

    MR drafted Rusty Smith!

Is it appropriate to tell a player what his limitations are? Especially a late draft pick who was brought in here as a long term project and not a guy expected to start any time soon?

Don't we want our players to believe in themselves? Don't we want them to work hard and strive for better things? So why then would the very man who drafted Rusty Smith try and put a lid on him like that?
