The question was... who do you want with the #8 pick. Not if you could trade down who would you draft, or i'd have a 1000 other ideas.

Xpmar9x must think we are running a 3-4 of he wants Miller and Powe.

It's not that Miller can't be a good player in our system he might be the type of guy who can play anywhere it's that an OLB doesn't get to rush the passer enough in our defense to get the most value from him. I think we can do well with Bruce Carter in rd 2. Miller is most ideal as a weak side 3-4 guy.

Somebody said that Aldon smith is the best pass rusher in this draft? He was third on his own team in sacks! I would rate Smith no higher than 6th among DEs much less than worth our 8th pick.

JJ Watt was not on that list but Smith was? Come on!

If Newton is there at 8 we have to take him. That simple. We have to take that chance. He has a better skill set than VY or Tebow and he has done all the right things during this draft period. Mike Mayock who has warmed to Newton lately says that he has interviewed well.

If Newton is not there then we go D-line Watt, Fairley, Kerrigan, Bowers and Quinn. In that order.

    lol we're switching to 3-4, dont'cha know?

But seriously, I think Von will be BETTER in the 4-3, than in the 3-4. Call me crazy. And I just like Powe because he's huge, and could be a Kevin Williams type player.

Von Miller for me, the kid has an explosive rush yes, but I think he'll excell in coverage over time in a 4-3. Was the best player on the field in the senior bowl in a 4-3.

Also did Gray not mention a hybrid defense, all of a sudden we would have a very good linebacking core for that system (3-4) Miller-Tulloch-McRath-Morgan. This could be where X's drafting of Powe will come in, to play NT and Jones is a great DE fit in this system. At least it could be a great option.

It's defiently possible Miller will fall to 8.

Sadly, I think you're right... As much as I dislike Newton, and drafting a QB at #8 period, it's a must. Although I don't see Cam making it out of the Top5. Between Carolina, Buffalo, and Arizona someone will draft him.

I don't see us switching to the 3-4... ever.

Although alot of teams have "hybrid defenses" where they run certain sets, with an extra LB, S, DE, whatever. We could do some 4-4 defense... that's what I run in Madden. So it's got to translate to real life, right?

Sadly, I think that Cam and Gabbert fell to #8, we'd take them. I can't blame the FO for that, either. Well, yes I can.

How can anyone in there right mind say that?
The guy is not a pro quarterback. I know the rest of the QB class really isn't that stellar either but Newton will not be a franchise quarterback. You throw another top ten pick away on a quarterback that doesn't work out and you set this franchise back a decade.
Seriously name one QB who ran the spread in college that has seen success in the NFL. Want an easier one? Start naming quarterbacks who ran the spread (or even worse) the dreaded spread option who have failed in the NFL.
    Graham Harrell
Tim Tebow(early but I'm calling it)
    Alex Smith
    Chase Daniel
    Akili Smith
    Pat White
    Vince Young
    You can keep going...

I still say the guy has serious character issues no matter what you think. Where there is smoke there is fire.
He had one season at the D1 level and did great. I still say his numbers were a product of the high school offense he ran at Auburn.
He was a fantastic runner but his passing abilities are below average at best. Go back and watch the games he struggled in. Auburn should have blown Oregon out but the Oregon was committed stopping Cam from running and they were successful for the most part. When he was forced to throw the ball he missed a lot. At the combine he missed on rehearsed routes, on turf, in a controlled environment. Three step drop out routes, seriously he couldn't do it.
