exaclty....if anything we dont reach we trade back and stockpile draft picks like the pats...im not sold on many players this year thats why i would rather trade back and try to pick up and extra 2nd and have a mid-late first round pick if anyone offers it...

ponder is pennington 2.0- no arm and always hurt- I'd rather not go down that road. the only two qb's i can in this years draft starting for us in the next two years are Gabbert and Mallet. that being said i think our defense is still our first round priority. and I'm not a fan of mallet in the second round because I'm tired of TN qb's with character issues. so whoever we draft is gonna be a project. i think Locker or Dalton would be a good fit for us but would understand if we drafted Kapernick(sp?). He is nothing but raw talent right now and he has a cannon.

The thing is, why draft someone with the same skill set as Rusty Smith. A raw talent with a cannon arm. That's why I like Ponder - great leader with a ton of smarts. Kaepernick to me seems like a Rusty Smith type with less experience in a pro set offense and thus a steeper learning curve.

So the question is: Are any of the raw quarterbacks with big arms that much different than Smith?

I would love to have a young Chad Pennington right now.

Everybody talks how that's a bad thing, to have another Pennington, but he dominated us when we were in our prime as a franchise. What QB has been labeled a bust because their arm is too weak? As long as they make the right decisions, they do well.

Early 2000s Pennington is better than anything we've had since 2003 McNair..

I'd love to have an Old Chad Pennington backing up Ponder......but you're right, before the injuries he was a surgeon...

Yep. I've been comparing Ponder to Pennington, but that's a great thing if he can kill the injury part of the comparison.

Did anyone see the line he played behind? It'd be hard for any QB to stay healthy in that situation.

Pennington has won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award twice, in 2006 and 2008. In 2008, he finished second in MVP voting to Peyton Manning.

Pennington is also the NFL's all-time leader in career completion percentage at 66.0%, among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 pass attempts.

Who the hell would want Chad Pennington 2.0????

I always called Pennington the smartest QB to play the game. He compensated for his lack of arm with intelligence. He was even a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship. When I see Ponder, I see that same intelligence. Not to mention, Ponder's arm strength issue is being way overblown. Once people grab a hold of something, they don't let go.

And what strategy do i have? I didn't know i had a strategy.

You have a man crush on Ponder and are trying every convoluted way to get him without using our first pick like he is all that matters.

We could get Stanzi or Dalton as late as rd 4. Why should we use half our draft capital just to get Ponder. Colt McCoy lasted until rd 3 last year.

What is the ceiling on Ponder? He is already polished and makes good throws in the short to medium range. He has good footwork. Where is the room for him to take his game to the next level and be a real stud? His numbers last year were average.

Can you coach arm strength? Stanzi was a solid big ten QB who also has some arm issues. Stanzi had better numbers than Ponder. Higher passing rating, higher comp % and much higher yards per attempt against big ten defenses.

Stanzi is also an inch taller for what that is worth.
