They were high, even the out routes no longer than 10-yards were high. But his 2nd time at the same route was much better.

Completely agree ! Overall the QBs definitely had some throws they probably wish they could have back. But man..there were MANY throws that were on point and the WR just wasnt in the same zip code ! Its really hard to judge a QB in these drill on accuracy..you pretty much really have to SEE the throw and judge from there

Does anyone think Stephen Paea makes it to the 2nd round?

He most definitely will at this point. At first, I was a big fan of him. I talked to an NFL scout recently though who told me that while he is strong at the point, he has no other moves in his arsenal other than the bull rush. He hasn't taken to coaching (not that he's stubborn, he just hasn't learned anything more), and add to that the injury in the Senior Bowl, he probably has a second round grade now.

EDIT: Didn't realize he had 49 reps. He may have squeezed back into the first, still very skeptical about him though.

The only way his receivers could have helped him is if they could grow 12 foot long arms. I watched him on NFL network and he was the 2nd worse thrower next to Johnson the QB from Texas A&M.

Copied over from another forum which didn't provide a link:
ESPN's John Clayton delivered the pool report and it seemed to jibe with those observations, but he's higher on Locker.

Reporters emerging from the second group's workout in Lucas Oil Stadium gave the nod to Florida State's Christian Ponder. Since his MVP performance in the Senior Bowl late last month, the 6-2, 219-pound Ponder has been making a steady climb into the late first round and on Sunday he may have got there with an accurate performance that bested Cam Newton.

"(Ponder) was accurate on the short and intermediate routes but struggled a little bit on the long passes," said pool reporter Joe Reedy of The Cincinnati Enquirer. "He doesn't have the strongest arm. Extremely accurate and good placement on throws. Definitely had the most command of anyone out there."

Newton didn't drop out of the top 10, but his inaccuracy was a surprise in completing just 11 of 21 passes. However, he did launch the deep ball pretty effectively.

"What's clear is he needs to work on his footwork on passes to his left," Clayton reported. "Like a lot of young quarterbacks, Newton tended to overstride and not be accurate on passes to his left. The longer the pass, the less accurate he was. He was one-for-three on short 'out' passes to his left, rebounded with his leftside 'turn-in' passes, but missed all three of his 'go' routes down the left sidelines. ... Perhaps the most disappointing part of his performance was overthrowing receivers on three passes to his right on short 'out' passes to the sideline."

But Clayton emphasized Newton's 6-5, 248-pound sheer athleticism. He ran 4.59 seconds in the 40-yard dash and had a 10-foot, six-inch broad jump, one of three quarterbacks who tied for the best broad jumps at their positions.

"(Locker) opened by showing great arch and touch on seam routes down the middle of the field," Clayton wrote. "Though his throws on slant routes were fine, a drop and a misstep by a receiver led to two of three incompletions … (he) wasn't as sharp in two of his three 'nine' routes to his left, being a little high with a couple of throws. Locker bounced back with a strong performance of throws to his right. He completed two of three throws on short 'out' routes."

As for Mallett, Clayton said he was flawless "arching the ball with perfect touch and hitting receivers in stride. On out routes to the sideline, Mallett delivered his best fastball and was perfectly accurate. The ball exploded into receivers' hands."

Ponder potentially moving into the late 1st is interesting. That means we will have to take a QB at 8, or trade back into late round 1. I said earlier there was a good chance 4 QBs went round 1, now maybe you can add a 5th.
To piggyback on that thought, there was an analyst on NFL radio the other day that said we would likely see a run on QBs in round 1 because the rookie wage scale that will likely be in place will make it easier to reach for the right guy because if you miss, the financial penalty won't be as high.

Only saw the second group of QBs. I thought Ponder and Portis were the best of the group. BTW, who is this Portis kid anyway? The kid looks like a real NFL QB and I've never heard his name mentioned. Wouldn't mind picking him up in a later round.

If that's the case it will probably have to be two or three teams trading up to get back in to the first round. There's only one team in the 17-32 range that needs a quarterback, and that's Seattle(25).

With the probability of not being able to trade players, I don't see it happening. Maybe four, but not five.
