This stat just proves my point... Eddie was an AVERAGE back with a sub 4.0 YPC AVG.

CJ is one of the best in the league with a YPC avg that is a full yard over the league average. And no, I'm not a "new fan" I watched both of them play and its no debate CJ > Eddie

    5.0 vs 3.6

How difficult is that to see?

Personality goes a long way with fans. That's where Eddie's getting an advantage here. If CJ talked like he could graduate the 3rd grade, and he acted like a team player, we'd be in love with him too.

Huge holes to run through buttering stats with big gains despite running for 2 yards most carries... how difficult is that to see?

As for thinking he averages a whole yard better than the rest of the league?

Jamaal Charles averages 6.4 yards per carry. CJ averages 4.3 (average, right?).

    So uhhh.... no.

    And to pile on-

    McFadden - 5.1
    Jacobs - 5.6
    McCoy - 5.2
    Blount - 5.0
    Foster - 4.9

They're all better than CJ because CJ averages an average ypc...right?

I never said CJ wasn't more talented than Eddie, but do you really not accept that backs just have a easier day at work today?

Highest YPC for backs with at least a 1000 yards:

    1996 - 5.1, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.1, 4.1
    1997 - 6.1, 5.5, 4.8, 4.8, 4.7, 4.4

    2009 - 5.9, 5.6, 5.3, 5.2, 5.1, 4.9
    2010 - 6.4, 5.2, 5.2, 5.0, 4.9, 4.6

Bold = Barry Sanders by the way, so be grateful as that can only help your case...

The way you're trying to prove your point is like trying to argue special effects in movies today are better than the ones made in the 80's without taking their different time eras into consideration.

Now this is a great poll.

It's too early for me to pick my favorite as of right now, but to overthrow Eddie, you have to do some pretty impressive things year after year.

As of right now, I would have to go with Eddie George.

Not that CJ is a bad RB, but Eddie really fit our system at the time and gave it everything he had.

    Exactly.

Is CJ on pace to be the better back? Absolutely. Is he built to play at a high level 2-3 years from now? No.

If CJ is able to continue playing the way he has for his first three seasons for another three to four years then he will have done more than anyone could ask and would be on his way to the Hall of Fame. He's still got a long way to go.

Anyone remember Shaun Alexander and how he was breaking records and on pace to shatter many other records and reach the Hall of Fame?

On a diiferent subject type, but still pertaing to old Eddie, I found this on a Wiki , which everyone knows should be read at extreme discretion.

George's mother, changed her schedule as a flight attendant (at the request of Eddie's agent, Lamont Smith) to be in San Antonio for Eddie's signing of his first NFL contract on July 19, 1996. If she hadn't, she would have been aboard TWA Flight 800, which crashed shortly after takeoff two days earlier

Then you agree that CJ is a better runningback than Eddie George ever was? Which is what the poll question is, not who had a better career.

    Hahaha ummm no.

Did you read that whole post? Where did I say that he's the better running back? He has to do a lot more to prove that.

I said he is on pace to be the better running back... totally different from saying he's straight up better.

CJ's probably never going to rush for 2,000 yards on a 5.6 avg again. In which case his best year is behind him. So in 2009 was he not better than Eddie George ever was?

The obvious answer is yes. And you have to be blind to not see that. The 2009 Chris Johnson was one of the best runningbacks this league has ever seen.
