I'm aware that stats don't tell the whole story, but his numbers are quite impressive...

    Is it John "Mick-En-Roe"?

    No It's John "Mack-en-roe"

I don't know any American with the name McElroy who doesn't pronounce it like he does.

    Evidently from googling:

"My mother's maiden name is McElroy, and it is pronounced Mick-El-roy. To my knowledge both are accepted pronunciations, Mackle-roy being the Scottish pronunciation and McElroy being the Irish."

"when the name is of scottish origin it typically is pronounced with a "Mack". Irish names are "Mick-" My boss is Alan McDonald and he is Scottish, so it is pronounced Mack-Donald unlike the hamburger joint."

Plus Jimmy McElroy from blades of Glory, plus I knew some McElroys from high school that pronounce it the same way as he does.

So did Craig Krenzel. I'd say they're pretty comparable players.

They won the championship in 2009 and last season was mostly due to the inexperience of the defense. Having to replace 9 starters is tough ya know? Also the OL wasn't as good because of injuries.

Everyone that I know says "mack" and even sports guys, family, fans, etc. Oh and yeah he's way smarter than you.

    McElroy- 222/313, 2987 yds, 70.9 comp %, 20 td's, 5 int's, 168.98 rating
    Stanzi- 221/345, 3004 yds, 64.1 comp %, 25 td's, 6 int's, 157.63 rating
    Gabbert- 301/475, 3186 yds, 63.4 comp %, 16 td's, 9 int's, 127.03 rating
    Locker- 184/332, 2265 yds, 55.4 comp %, 17 td's, 9 int's, 124.20 rating
    Dalton- 209/316, 2857 yds, 66.1 comp %, 27 td's, 6 int's, 166.48 rating
    Ponder- 184/299, 2044 yds, 61.5 comp %, 20 td's, 8 int's, 135.68 rating

So...McElroy ranks 2nd in completions to just 5th in attempts, 3rd in yards, 1st in comp % (not even close), t-3rd in td's, 1st in least amount of int's, and 1st in rating.

Mcelroy is a better prospect than Krenzel was.

And to correct Duece Mcelroy was key to the first half strategy Bama used against Florida in the SEC championship they had to win to get that title. Remember when they shocked Florida by spreading things out and throwing much of the first half? And Mcelroy was extremely effective.

If we did wait until rd 2 to draft a QB then maybe we should supplement that pick with another QB like this later on. That would give us 3 young Qbs if you consider Smith viable, i don't.

I watched every Bama game last year, most in person, McElroy is good but in Bama system is to pound the football.

When I look at a NFL QB I want three things: Smarts, accuracy, and leadership and McElroy has all 3. Now I'm not saying he could be a starter in the NFL or he'll be a great one but the whole he can't throw the ball and he never did anything is a joke.
