Been thinking about this and all the "idiot" comments I read about Fairley and Cam... but Luck has made one of the most moronic decisions I can think of in recent history.

Read an article awhile back talking about what a smart decision it is, how Peyton returned for his senior season and was fine. How Bradford got hurt and was still a top pick after his senior season.

And sure, Luck will get his degree and has aspirations outside of football...

But there will likely be rookie scaling in next year's draft! I've seen estimates that he could lose as much as $30 million depending on how the rookie scale gets structured!

30 MILLION! I just don't how his decision is intelligent or justifiable.

He goes to Stanford. I'm sure before he took a single snap at Stanford, he had aspirations to be something more than a football player. If you only care about football you go to a SEC school, not a PAC10 school.

    1) There's a good chance the rookie wage scale is in place for this draft. Once it's in place, players will make the bulk of their money on their 2nd contract. Luck may feel that he has a better chance at earning that gigantic 2nd contract if he develops a bit more before he goes pro.
    2) Some things are just more important than money. He obviously values his education (and maybe the shot at a Heisman) over the money.

I think either of those explanations should be sufficient.

Maybe I am wrong but even he was in the draft this yr he couldn't get signed until the new CBA is in force. Who knows how that is going to play out

Stanford is one of the most prestigious schools in America. Unlike SEC schools, where most student athletes study kinesiology.... And unlike SEC schools, which have significantly lower standards for student athletes, a degree from stanford is a life long achievement which rivals a degree from an ivy league school.

My buddy was a highly touted student athlete who was recruited by University of Florida... He sent in his admissions application the normal way any other normal undergrad would and was denied admission. He tells the coach about it and the coach said that he did it all wrong and that there was a "special" application for student athletes and that the coach would "turn in the application to admissions on his behalf."

Financially, its a terrible decision, but if the guy is serious about his education, who am I to question him? College was the best years of my life and I'm sure the same is probably true for Andrew Luck.

His family has alot of money. Enough on their own - and through connections - that it really no longer becomes that big a deal to them

It cost Leinart a boatload because he stayed in his senior year. I wonder how he feels now about that senior season.

I don't think I could have made that decision... players do sometimes finish their degrees after the NFL and for a projected #1 pick that's tough guaranteed money to pass up. But it's true that the new CBA will likely include an overhaul of rookie salaries and he could come out just fine on his 2nd contract if he earns it. And have to admire the decision.

What does it have to do with conferences? I'm talking about money. I'd start the same thread about Fairley if he stayed at Auburn another year.
