    Agree.

I generally side owners-players-coaches when it comes to the NFL.

I take exception to people that want to boycott the NFL or all players are evil and greedy. They should fight for 99% of revenues, they gotta fight for their interest. And of course the owners shouldn't cave, that would be ridiculous.

What I'd generally like to see happen, is better health benefits for those that suffer longterm from playing in the NFL. Less overall revenue to players. Some form of a rookie scale so a bad draft pick isn't so crippling financially. I'd like to see more of a longevity incentive, so those players that play for 5+ or even 10+ years can make more money without it adversely affecting a team's salary cap.

I agree with most of that. It's not the players that are evil and greedy, however there are some that fit that mold. I'm blaming the players union here not the players. The union needs to fight hard for lifelong medical benefits and shouldn't cave without those concessions.
The thing is they will get that, especially with talk of an 18 game schedule. They should stop there, but they won't that's the problem I have with all of this. I don't think they should receive lesser salaries than they do now, but totally agree with the rookie wage scale. It's just not right for a rookie to come on and make more than some vets.

...and some of those that lost their homes are former NFL players and the union is fighting to give these guys some healthcare benefits and a pension.

I don't really understand why so many tend to place all the blame on the players and virtually none on the owners.

What is "right" is usually irrelevant in business negotiations. Owner-employee (union) interests are always in conflict.

Owner's have venture risk and fiscal responsibility for any failed venture or debts. The players risk time/health but can walk away to another job. They aren't on the hook if the venture fails.

The owner's are entitled to a "reasonable" share of the profits based soley on their venture risk. Negotiations determine what is "reasonable". It will work itself to a happy medium that maybe not be ideal for each side, but acceptable to both. I don't get too irate any more when employer-employee conflicts such as this arise in my workplace. It's just the price of doing business.

I believe the CBA issue will get resolved by the May if not sooner.

You really believe NFL players are unfairly compensated? I have no problems with them getting a piece of the pie, getting a fair share of any merchandise sale that has their NAME on it...not just a number because they don't have rights to a number until it is retired in their name in my book.

But I absolutely refuse to buy into this idea of players not getting fair compensation. I have heard this said over and over and it just doesn't fly. If they want to live and spend like crazy and not invest properly then I don't feel a dang twang of pity for them for blowing through their money over their career. That's on them. That is on all of us. Fact is though that the majority DO get a second chance after their career is over. The ones that leave school early and don't work to get their degrees in the off season...well they will live with those decisions and I don't pity them.

I don't believe the owners owe them any more than their contracts. The owners are paying them like any other employee in a business...the owners are taking risks for the franchises.

Funny how when the players SUCK and the fan base dwindles and merchandise sales drop as a result...the players aren't seeing less money in their paychecks...that profit is lost by the organization and the owner. Some regular person in the business side my get fired as a result...but amazing how the players still get their paychecks while under performing.

But...this is just my viewpoint and not necessarily the whole story..

To be honest, I'd love for the lockout to happen and let the UFL become a legitimate minor-league sort of outfit but it's so hard to think that would ever happen.

I think it's foolish to say there won't be any holdup, but to think there would be no season is unreal.

And imagine no fantasy football. This is in the best interest of even the Yahoo!'s, ESPN's, and Rotoworld's of the internet.

NFL.com would lose revenue from the league pass, fantasy football, etc.

The losses would be fast and furious if there were a lockout. It'd already be a massive hit if there was even delays.
